from what i'm reading sounds like you're headed towards something similar to the old school squats & milk routine.  there are several variations out there if you want to google it but the one i'm familiar with would have you following up your squats with a set of pullovers w/25lbs and then 2-3 circuits of dips, pullups and situps.

Something like that wouldn't actually be too bad. Realised I have to squat today and tomorrow, but I'll definitely keep this in mind for Thursday.

So long as you've got the palming down pat, you shouldn't need too much clearance over the rim at all. When you're just starting, palming is by far the most difficult part. I get a foot over the rim and I'm constantly losing my grip on the ball right as I'm about to dunk.

Thanks mate. Yeah, I was thinking that I could just do a light upper body session on my off days to maintain what I have. Just compound exercises like push ups, chins, etc - whatever I can do around my house I guess. As you said, I don't want to go too hard out.

And yes, I am determined to complete Smolov, whether it's 100% suited to my bodytype and experience or not.  ;)

I usually always train in the morning. Squats, deadlifts, etc - No problems with injuries at all.

Okay, because I can jump just as high from a LR as opposed to my normal RL. Was just wondering if there was any extra inches I could be harnessing if I worked on it.

Thanks. Do you think it'd be wise doing upper body with Smolov? Or would that be over training?

I'd rather just use a barbell.

Do you know if one can adopt a LR plant or is it genetic?

Care to post a link to it? Others (like myself) might also be interested. :P

It's definitely progress if you're hanging on the rim. There is actually quite a large difference between grabbing the ring and hanging on it. You can't hang on it if you only have the upper half of your fingers around the rim. You need the whole finger - well done on achieving this.

Well, if my only goal is to get a bigger vertical, is there any real necessity to be doing upper body work? I'm doing Smolov for the next 12 weeks, so my legs and lower upper body are going to be drained from that. Any problems with ignoring my upper body? Should I be doing just enough to maintain what I've got?
