ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Pain in right quad
« on: August 22, 2012, 04:40:01 pm »
Lance I'm wondering if you can help me identify this pain I have in my right quadricep. First of all this always happens either in my left or right quadriceps when squatting high frequency. Im not sure if it is a really deep soreness or a maybe something worse. Its hurts like it can't absorb a lot of force or something. First example, I was jogging for like a minute (late for class) every time my right leg hit the ground it hurt in the middle kind of deep in the thigh. I also shot around today on the court and did a few jumps this is when it especially hurts, right into the plant and when I jump it's like that part of the muscle tissue is deeply sore. And then I drove home from school and when getting out of the car my quad contracting produced the same pain. Do you have any idea what it is or any suggestions? I hope I was specific enough, any advice is much appreciated. Like I said, if I'm not suffienctly warmed up it will do that when I squat as well but when I'm warmed up it's not that bad, but can still feel it. It's much different from DOMS bc it's like pain, but also a soreness at the same time if that makes sense.

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Re: Push Press and Basketball
« on: August 19, 2012, 09:20:36 pm »
I definitely vouch for the push press, as I feel it did help me with being more physical and being able to absorb more contact while finishing during drives and layups. But if you push press watch for shoulder health and do work for the external rotators and stretch the shoulders, pecs, traps to avoid impingement.

This was a good article that can apply to everybodys training

It was pretty well made... But when watching I was thinking that's not happening. But I'm sure he can actually bench 185 now

So does everybody agree that KD benching 315 is probably fake?.... That was about to make me even more jealous of KD... Lol

I've tried 200 mg caffeine and 1200mg phenylethylamine and it definitely works. You feel a big head rush but you are ready to go!! I was using it during my 4 am workouts.. The phenylethylamine helped with a good mood feeling and combined with caffeine you really set some pr's but your blood pressure does increase when taking it. It also makes music sound better, I think the increased dopamine from taking it just puts your brain in a euphoric mode and nothing can bother you.

To add to my post IMO the best upper body exercise with weights that helped me out the most for basketball was the push press, I was doing thibs hp mass for a couple months and when I was playing ball there was a definite notice in me driving and being physical. In every pick up game I was asked if I played football, and while playing I always heard comments like "yo he's strong as f***"  when driving for layups and what not. but I agree basketball players need some muscle, but I think as long as you have your body weight mastered you'll have plenty of strength.

For basketball I would say being able to do 60 pushups, 30 dips,  20 full range pull ups would be more than enough strength for a basketball player, especially a non post player. All body weight, no complications, and can workout every day.. I mean for me looking back on it when I played ball I think bw exercises for upper body would've helped even better than weights in my opinion.

I didn't even see this posted when I posted the same thing, but yeah I am planning on getting these if I can find a good review on them. Maybe Jack Woodrup will get a pair and write a good review soon

Nice lion and tiger vids... A fellow worker of mine is from the Congo, and he said that you always carry sand in your pockets in case a lion tries to attack you you can throw the sand in the lions face and then run away.

I understand how the front squat can be the most similar to the vertical jump from a force vector stand point, but how can it be optimal loading for the quadriceps compared to HB and LB? I mean would using the front squat be taking the long route for strength?

Any body thinking about getting them? Do you think they are accurate enough for the purchase? I know on YouTube it measures dunker JusFly at 49.9 inches on one of his dunks. The reviews on YouTube just kinda review the shoe itself and not the sensors, but I think it would be worthwhile to know how high I'm jumping on any given dunk or layup especially in a game. Any opinions? Hopefully Jack Woodrup gets a pair and gives a great honest unbiased opinion like he always does...

Yes, Kelly has a similar section in his VJB 2.0, I like his explanations in finding an athletes weakness or dominance by each joint. But I think doing one knee extension compound movement like the squat, then a hip extension dominant movement , and an ankle extension dominant movement every session would be the bang for the buck as it hits the hips twice with two exercises and the knee extensors and calves once with just with one exercise. This should prevent quad over dominance but still gets trained while training both the hip extension and ankle extension. So all joints get worked. Kelly did provide good tests for assessment none the less

Straight black coffee works for me, or two monster rehab energy drinks. But today i think i will copy Lance and will try some tyrosine and coffee I have some left over I forgot about. Have any of you tried biotests expensive brain candy? It's pretty good puts you in a sort of social/thinking/happy/energized mood it's just so expensive though I bought some for semester finals.

Good link, I've made one from Ross's video. It's very useful for swings but is a no go for snatches... Im planning to shorten the handles though as they can scrape the inside of the thighs a little bit.
