I think there are multiple factors involved here that all add up incrementally.

One- the mat test can be "cheated" landing slightly bent kneed as noted here already. Say it only adds 1" to their SVJ...

Two- jumping off turf is tougher in my experience. So say their RVJ is an inch low.

That's a 2" swing just at a glance. So know you're closer to a 6" variation between RVJ and SVJ. More "acceptable".

I've also noticed that, while both are obviously helped by repetitions, the SVJ is more strength dependant whereas a RVJ has a myriad of factors. Strength, speed, form/technique. It seems more genetically predispositioned. Especially since I'm seeing guys who have massive RVJ start strength training and while their SVJ skyrockets they only add a few inches to their RVJ (talking elite jumpers here). Just my observations and experience but it seems like they're closer to their genetic limit on RVJ than they were in SVJ because that's what they did a lot of.

Ben and ATG have ABSOLUTELY helped my knee issues. While I'm not jumping as high as I have at my peak (age and most notably reps) there's no way I would be moving like I am today without them!

Sigh. Just got informed the gym is closing for two weeks starting tomorrow. I'll get one more lift in tonight and then...the struggle begins. Finding a way to train maximally at home.

Great article in regards to the differences in speed and lower athletes!

WOW. I didn't realize I hadn't updated in awhile.

Ok quick life update for those that care: I quit the nice paying job due to upper management BS. So I took a few weeks off from everything including training. Weight went up to 203lbs before I said enough is enough. Started training again in late January with a modified ATG style split workout. I gained a few more lbs the first week or two then added some actual cardio. Currently I'm back down to 194 and just now starting to expand on some plyo work and feel some spring coming back. This virus BS is hitting the bank account so the race cars are in indefinite hold sadly but life is life and I can handle that.

Current "best" lifts: BS 405lbs. FS 305lbs. Deadlift 425lbs. Hang clean 185x3.

Last week I started shooting around some as well and timing for dunking off lobs is ALLLLLL off. Speed on dribble dunks is awful as well. I expect those to somewhat come back with reps.

For now my local gym is still open but work and basically everything else is up in the air. I've got a semi thought out plan of attack for a home based workout if necessary but with no weights it won't be the best as my body responds to heavier loads better than reps. Training would turn more towards a ballistic approach.

So that's about it. Managed to grab a quick vid of some warmup depth jumps and Tuesdays top back squat single. Struggled more than last week (first week at 405) but it was also 2:30 am and I was exhausted lol I'll take it.

Ok, the new setup is LIT! LOVE IT! GREAT FOURTH QUARTER!

same. that was crazy.

it sounded a bit nuts but you knew that if it was close, it could get intense.

and damn did it get intense.

epic. \o/

I think that was Giannis's idea.

If so just another reason to like him. Dude is just... He does everything right. Plays hard on both sides of the ball. Wins without a second super star. Skips out on movies/commercials to work on his game and comes back each year better and better. Plus he's humble and shit. Dudes grade A man.

Sigh ok...here I go....

I'm not upset that DJJ won (I'm sorry did y'all SEE that BTL off glass over Chuck????). I AM upset about that last rounds scores. Completely. I AM upset that we didn't just let two of the best contest dunkers in the NBA keep going until someone missed. I AM upset that Gordon won't do another contest (though I understand for sure).

So here's my breakdown:

Judging SUCKED as mentioned. Howard's scores for the "Superman" dunk? Hot garbage. DJJ not getting a 50 on his first dunk? Also garbage. He was looking IN THE FUCKING RIM. He was penalized for a miss ok...but later AG wasn't. So inconsistent. IMO both AG and DJJ threw down nothing but 50s. Everyone on FB is complaining about DJJs "not FT" windmill. Ok...like maybe 4 guys can do that. He's one of them. Plus he was long on the finish which showed he had air to spare. AG didn't clear Tacko clean (yea yea lemme finish) but...he finished clean even with the duck/pushoff but let's be real....dudes 7'6 in shoes. I've only seen Reemix clear anything like that and he's an alien. So that said.... All 50s. Fuck Dwade for this one and I like Wade. We need to get REAL dunkers as judges...hell Dr J, Mike, old NBA dunk contest winners or...if you wanna push these guys get Staples, Kilganon, Jclark to judge. They won't be wowed as easily.

Best dunk? Ooof. AGs off side scoop 360 was SICK BUT ... I think there's more guys that can do that than DJJs BTL off glass (both can do both fwiw...will expound later).

End thoughts: DJJ won...less misses, more technical/fluid overall (AG didnone dunk that DJJ had already done as well), but I would have been ok with it going either way. EPIC contest up there with 88, 2k, and 2016 that will be tarnished by shit judging. And I DO think DJJ has the deeper bag, more bounce and overall better dunker for this reason. AG is strictly a 2 foot jumper (for contest purposes obviously) whereas DJJ has an arsenal off 2 or 1. IE, if they keep going I think DJJ has more stuff to go to give the variety.

🤷‍♂️

Ohhh man. Curious to your thoughts on Rollo's books as well as Glover's and Greens. Those were a complete life affirmation for me!

Ah also, found it interesting that I could basically walk by all but one guy all day and get in the lane. Judging by how easy it was to get by guys off no move or a single move I feel like I may be quicker right now than when I was lighter!!! This ATG training seems to be on point.

Didn't get to lift except for Monday and Friday this week so I was quite fresh today for a day long 5v5 tournament. 4 games. 36 minutes per. I played every minute lol! Lost 4.8lbs today 😂 currently gaining some back 🙄😁. Played like TRASH the first game. 0-5 from 3 and only 9 points. Did have 8 assists to one TO tho. Very rusty on the J and the handle was eh. Haven't played this level of comp since last spring so I took it as an adjustment period. Game 2 was better (we lost game 1) and I started hitting some jumpers and felt more comfortable with the rock and started finally making some things happen. Won g2. Game 3 was a blowout. Basic just got guys involved. Played around in the second half with some moves to see how my body and hand eye was reacting to stuff. Game 4 was the semis and I felt GOOD. 27 points, 9 assists and some boards and a few blocks. Missed a massive put back attempt over 3 guys in the first half and after that it was suddenly "guard the white kid" smh. Sad news is I rimmed out a step back 10 footer with 6 seconds left and we lost 73-72. Quite pissed because it was a great look and felt and looked good. Just spun off the rim and got batted around in mad scramble and that was that.

Overall a great time. Really enjoyed playing some good comp again and was happy with my play overall by the end of the day. Knee feels pretty good too so far. Will definitely be interested in how it feels in the am!

I usually hit some during warmups. I think this scenario was just caused by not having much volume lately to drill form. I'll probably add some bar squats in to warmups to get more comfortable under the bar.

Well, played full court for 2.5 hours last night in full sweats  :D and was primed to lift but after the 30 min drive to the house to get a snack.... I skipped the gym. Will hit some stuff tonight after watching the NBA season tip off! Wooohooooo!!!

IF people didn't mess up I should be on squad for 5v5 this year. If not I'll make a couple calls and see if I can get picked up. Last night I finally felt more like myself, J was solid, handle is quickly coming back and I felt much quicker even at 191lbs BW. Even tossed down a few light dunks afterwards and that floor is a "sport court" that SUCKS for jumping. Sucks for joints too but I'm not too sore this AM so that's good.

Uhhh. I'm not dead lol! Sorry, eventful few weeks. Broke the race car at SCT Atlanta, sprained my wrist and got a deep contusion 3 days later and have basically been out of commission for 3 weeks. Picked up another chassis to build this winter since the car broke out of cert twice in Atlanta before shredding a transmission on a 140+ mph pass lol! Picked up a ball again last week and hooped twice. Wrist was a little weak but played decently. Lost some weight not lifting and I felt quick and bouncy again. Got picked up for a 5v5 league that should start at the beginning of November I think. Fun stuff. Start lifting again Monday!

No worries man.  :D Open discussion is always fun and welcomed!!!

Tried deadlifts last night as a finisher. Holy fuck I'm weak as shit. 365 for 3 was easy. Went to try a 405 double and vid says.... Back rounded on rep one. So I didn't attempt rep two. The rep felt fine in terms of the pull out my form was ATROCIOUS. So I'll probably stick to some 315x5 range stuff on deadlift days to hammer form back into me.
