I have osgood since 6 or so... it definitely destroyed my chances of being a 2-leg jumper. My right VMO (where I have the condition) is pretty much non existant. No wonder I have all sorts of knee issues.

Have you done neanderthal no more program on t-nation?

I was born with an orthopedic condition known as oschgoodschlatters syndrome, which predisposes sufferers with an underdeveloped VMO.

Also my legs are pretty damn long. I'd guess that with another 5-10KG of muscle, and another 5-10 years of solid training, my quads will probably be like yours (I might be exaggerating, I'll update with some pics on my blog at the end of my 531 mesocycle just to compare).

Yes a lot of it comes down to genetics (insertion points, muscle belly properties, joint size, segment length ect). If your fairly tall and lanky, adding an extra 5KG of muscle onto your frame in most cases is barely noticeable visually.

I too suffered from this. What I did in a nutshell:

-Purchased personally designed orthotics as prescribed by my physio
-Started wearing good supportive footwear everywhere (barely wear thongs, slip ons, vans ect)
-LOTS of soft tissue work for the ITB's, TFL, glutes, piriformis, hip flexors, basically everything tight around the hip joint. When I mean lots I mean everyday, foam rolling being the bare minimal. I'd even recommend acupuncture/dry needling.
-Followed the neanderthal no more program:

Basically got stronger from there, focused on good lifting technique and slotting in my pre hab/corrective stuff each session.

generally a linkage of muscular imbalances across the whole body contribute to such podiatry disorders so you should consider how it is effecting your posture, hip alignment ect.....

Get yourself some powerbands and do TKE's as well:

Let me know how it goes,

greyhound looks a bit quad dominant...

were you kidding? :)

greyhound has big hamstrings on the hindlimbs, check it:

2003: Functional trade-offs in the limb muscles of dogs selected for running vs. fighting

The physical demands of rapid and economical running differ from those of physical fighting such that functional trade-offs may prevent simultaneous evolution of optimal performance in both behaviours. Here we test three hypotheses of functional trade-off by measuring determinants of limb musculoskeletal function in two breeds of domestic dogs that have undergone intense artificial selection for running (Greyhound) or fighting performance (Pit Bull). We found that Greyhounds differ from Pit Bulls in having relatively less muscle mass distally in their limbs, weaker muscles in their forelimbs than their hindlimbs, and a much greater capacity for elastic storage in the in-series tendons of the extensor muscles of their ankle joints. These observations are consistent with the hypothesis that specialization for rapid or economical running can limit fighting performance and vice versa. We suggest that functional trade-offs that prevent simultaneous evolution of optimal performance in both locomotor and fighting abilities are widespread taxonomically.

so, they have "less muscle distally", ie, the muscle belly is higher towards the origin of the bone, which means they have longer tendons, especially in their lower leg (ankles, ankle extensors specifically).

very similar to humans and elite sprinting.

peace

Lol, there seems to be studies on just about anything these days

Hi everyone,

My names is Ryan, I actually found this place after visiting the vertical summit, which is more or less a spamfest now so I decided to come here.

The place looks pretty great and a lot of the knowledgeable members from TVS are here too, so seems promising.

Basically I was just looking for a good place with good members to start my training log at and to share knowledge. Couldn't really think of any other places which are active and has a good network (I'm not a powerlifter, bodybuilder so that excludes t-nation, elitefts and bodybuilding.com ect).

I used to play basketball competitively in high school for about 5-6 years, I'm just a gym rat now though.

I'm following Wendler's 531, and I just want to become progressively stronger.

Looking forward to tthe discussions,
