I just watched the whole match after getting through a whole work day dodging spoilers. Ouch. I couldn't envisage a more torturous match for die-hard Federer fans: losing with two Championship points after nearly five hours of up-and-down play, and a shank to end it. But, it's impressive he pushed Djokovic this hard. Djokovic is still looking like he's mostly in his prime form.

Between this match and the AO Nadal beatdown, I think Djokovic has a strong case for BOAT. I don't think he'll ever be considered GOAT over Federer (and if Fed had won this match, this discussion would be sealed forever). But, the opponent quality in all of his 16 major wins is insane: Federer (4), Nadal (4), Murray (5), and then three excellent players in Del Potro, Tsonga, and Kevin Anderson once each. At the very least, he's the most mentally tough and clutch player I've seen. He has the best ELO ranking too, for what that's worth.

Yeah hopefully we can get another sub 10 sprinter soon. Rohan Browning is 21 (10.08 PB), Trae Williams is 21 (10.10 PB) and Jack Hale is 19 (10.19 PB). Josh Clarke is 23 and has a 10.15 PB but the last couple of years he has been cut down by hamstring injuries.

Trae Williams has signed a 2 year contract to play Rugby 7's.

That's a blow to the relay team, but I think it's a good decision for him. He took the classic post-PR backwards step and there's a few other sprinters in his tier now. It shows how limited a career in athletics is even when you're running 10.10. It's either: commit fully for 8-10 years to hit absolute peak in late twenties (while hopefully avoiding injury), or quit while ahead and still young enough to re-train in a different sport.

I'm disappointed with my man Ben Simmons this playoffs. I guess it turns out that having absolutely no jumpshot is not so good in today's NBA. I read this stat somewhere on RealGM about his jumpshot this season vs his rookie season:

I've never seen a player regressing so badly on such a glaring weakness from rookie to sophomore season. Bizarre given how crucial it is to unlocking his offensive game.

Does entropy usually take a posting break after the Easter tournament? Hope he's having a good deload and refreshing himself. He seems to put a lot of pressure on himself for this event.

I don't think he's better than D-Wade, by a decent margin. But, PP was pretty good. Here's both players through 16 seasons (the most D-Wade will play when he retires after this season). If you respect advanced metrics, PP has better shooting and rebounding numbers, better VORP, more Win Shares (WS), and the same WS/48mins. He was a pretty skilled offensive player and is probably close to top 50 all-time. (Of course, playoff Wade >>> playoff PP, and Wade's '09 season was one of the best statistical peaks ever.)

I'm almost nervous to try it, because, based on my other scores, I should be throwing around 15m+....but I'm sure that I was only doing ~12m, which seems way off. We'll see  :huh:

I'm pretty happy with those starting scores overall. I realised after I did it that, reading the rules again, I'm possibly starting the 30m wrong - for a standing start, I think I should instead start with my toe up to the line, rather than two feet back (as if I'm in blocks, which is just how we did it when I trained with the sprint group). I might try and redo that one to see if it's a big difference. I don't know how much I can gain on the 30m, but I can definitely make inroads on the broad jump and SVJ, and the 3xjump is very sloppy (I haven't done this at all since starting back at the track).

I know how you feel with the race distance getting messed up. My best '5K' was sub-20 (~18m35s or so), but the course was 300m short. I'm sure I could have still slipped under but I'll never know... :'(

From my n=1 cross-country experience (and when I did hill training for sprints), as adarq said^, the middle ground is where you want to be for downhill: too much braking and my knees/quads got sore, and as downhill running is overspeed running, running too fast will wreck your hamstrings in a way you probably don't want for a long XC run. For short uphill stretches(~200-400m), I found it was actually less painful (and probably less calories burnt perhaps) to accelerate up the hill hard and maintain that momentum for as long as possible to get over it faster, than just running my regular pace, if that makes sense. I always saved up my bursts for the start of the hills, and then mostly free-wheeled on the downhill.

6 years ago on this day I was working in a meat factory for $20.50 an hour starting at 4am. Every day I would wake up early, get to work and watch the clock and calculate the money in my head. 90 minutes prior to close I'd hose down and clean all the machines, and come home soaking wet smelling like meat. At the time I felt very resentful because I had gone to uni for 4 years, which cost me 40k. Yet here I was underutilised, working in a low paying job, with most of my colleagues barely able to speak English. These days I have a much better job and earn double the amount, but I still feel miserable. 6 years ago if I was in my current position I would feel happy. However, now I still feel underutilised...

Sorry to hear that mate. Has the new role in the Army not been much fun so far?

got into grad school today. not the program i'll likely end up in, but still, it feels good to get an acceptance letter. moving to belgium in the fall.

Education  :personal-record:. Congratulations.  Masters/Ph.D?

Where in Belgium? I loved the time I spent there, probably my favourite European country.

I have key access to the track down the road now (only a 1.5 year odyssey), so finally I might have a bit of clear air in regards to training facilities. I've started wearing my weight vest during 'gym' sessions and doing more weighted jumps. 100m ht is ~12.2 sec reliably, and recently, I ran a ~25sec 200m and 42sec 300m (this killed me), all just for fun. SVJ has probably ticked up a bit but haven't tested it. Now I can get to the track more regularly, I am going to train for the Quadrathlon, because I'm a few years away from joining the full-time adarq.org run squad, and I still like doing sprint/power-based training for fun (and bball is completely off the cards for now). There's even a score calculator, and playing around with some dummy values, I think adding on [SVJ''*2] to the final score is reasonable to make it a quintathlon (or, substitute for the overhead throw). Anyone else interested (@seifullaah)?

At first I was thinking that you were asking about long distance running some sort of marathon but times 4 lol. But vising the site I see what it is.

I like doing these kinds of tests. Last time I did standing long jump, 120m, 1200m (this was the worst, i prob mentioned it before but I was running the last 2 laps dragging my body, while my body was crying and saying stop lol). We should leave the overhead throw, my svj is weak  :P.

I'm definitely interested. But my 30m compared to your 30m now, long way off, I saw your 60m run and timed your 30m using quick time and you ran 3.93, that's elite level shit compared to my 4.5 no catching you there. or is there? after some fresh legs  :ninja:.

It doesn't have to be a head-to-head competition, just improvement on baseline a year from now, or whatever. Similar to what I was doing with FDL (although that was a bit of a washout, because he barely did anything but squat). And yeah, if you and I can both access a shotput, then I'm keen to do the throw. It's probably my worst 'event' of the lot based on some of the reported scores on that page. I'm way off  :huh:. I'm training for the SVJ/RVJ anyway so it would fit in nicely to add it in. But we can just measure the four events.

A fun fact about the track I train at now: Yiannis Kouros set a 24hr world record there in 1997 (I think) of around 290km, or nearly seven marathons  :o.
