Introduce Yourself / Re: Intro to "beatingravity"
« on: June 25, 2009, 06:42:41 pm »
Beatin' Gravity is up in the house,
beating out sick rhymes with keyboard and mouse.

New to the club, but that's okay,
he knows Darqui rules when you're looking to train.

Science and grit is what we're about,
if you ain't got either then get the Hell out.

Still though your intro was slick and your rhymes damn on key,
Welcome to the site, it's a great place to be.

Dammit, Kelly. We're going to have to do this again, aren't we. ;)

Yes, some people overcomplicate it, but a lot of the terms you just made fun of are necessary. Just to give one example, there is a clear distinction between SE, SE1, and SE2 because they will provide specific endurance relative to the distance run. All the 250s in the world will not ensure a fast 60-100M. This is one area where the terms are necessary (and very easy to follow).

Basically, I'm just saying that you're simplifying things too much now. Bodybuilding and sprinting a random distance every so often will not optimally build a sprinter (though it probably could make a good one).

I agree. That was absolutely amazing. The degree of explosiveness and body control that he displayed was out of this world.

Products are great but customer service is shit.  I will never buy another CF product ever again!  >:(
What makes you say that? My dealings with them have been fine, if not limited.

I have the EMS from Wisdomking.com..  Its been a while since I've used if for training.

Do any of yall think that the EMS would cause muscle tightness using those powerful contractions?

What do you mean "muscle tightness"? Are you talking about soreness or inflexibility?

If soreness, then yes, it would. Intense contractions with a significant volume will usually cause soreness, but like everything else, you'd get used to it over time.

If you're talking about inflexibility, then no, not unless you did something wrong. Flexibility is a neurologically mediated phenomenon, meaning it's controlled by the nervous system. As long as the volume of work teaching the muscles to remain elongated outweighs the volume of work teaching them to remained shortened, you'll be fine.

Man, you look like you're really getting up in the first and second pics. Any guess as to how high up you were getting?

you'll be more aerodynamic for the 100m  :P

Yeah, there's that too. ;D

I also forgot to mention that I did sets of 10 second on, 60 seconds off (if I remember correctly), and usually did 4-5 sets.

I've used EMS for a few short periods of several weeks and was astonished with the results. I went from not being able to do a single natural GHR to being able to knock out a set of 11 completely unassisted. That having been said, the discomfort, setup time, and the need to shave my caveman legs has stopped me from using it since.

Though I can't remember the exact settings, I used a EMS 7500 @ 120 hZ with the power turned all the way up.

I really should give it another look, leg shaving be damned,

100m200m, thanks for the idea, but if I can get to a basketball court, I can somewhere more suitable.

And to everyone, I would like to note a few changes. My cardiac circuits may extend up to 45 minutes, not just the 20-30 minutes listed in the article. I'll also be doing sport sprints during Phase One when weather and conditions allow, either with or in lieu of the plyos.

Results or no, you're still being dumb. You're beat to hell and jumping 38". Imagine what you could do if your body was actually functioning...Would you train another athlete this way?

That having been said, kickass job out there. I wish I had half your drive, just not if it came with half your hardheadedness. ;D

Keep pushing it to the limits, Andrew. But for God's sake, take a break every once in a while.

Dan, thanks for the kind words and the advice.

I would spend more time on the track, but I live in Alaska and there's snow on the ground 7 months out of the year, and it's only warm enough to run outside for 4. My plan is largely tailored to my environment. I am trying to get as much on-track time as possible while it's warm though.

This reminds me, I need to write an article addressing all this current cardio overanalytical omegawave  rage etc.  It really frustrates me to no end because not only do they make it all guruesque sounding but they make up their own terms in place of old standsards like lactate threshold, aerobic threshold etc. and toss out HR numbers like they're standard when they're individual specific.    If you're gonna make your conditioning that complicated and you're already training inno-sport why don't you use their terms for it...aerobic reserve, aerobic response, anaerobic reserve etc. ?

Conditioning has never been my strong suit, even knowledge-wise. This is how the person who helped me with it laid it out. All that I care about is that it's helping me get in shape.

And I'd use Inno-Sport terms, but the vernacular isn't set up to describe conditioning. It's almost all about anaerobic work with full recovery.

Stop being a dumbass. ;D

Knock off the jumping for a little while and don't you dare do a dunk session tomorrow. Give the ankle at least another day to try and heal up. Trust me on this one. I don't want to see you injured again.

I liked the post too, Alex. This is one area Westside really screws kids up. Too much variety when they're not ready for it.

looks good man.. just funny seeing you train like this now.. ;)

definitely for the better though.. i like it and can't wait to see how it goes.

in the next phase will you implement the heavier ISO HF split squats?

peace man

Haha, training like this sucks, but I've been needing to do it for so long.

And I don't know if I'll be incorporating HF squats again for a long time. I love them as a movement, by SL ISO DLs are awesome too. I've never seen another exercise that crushes my glutes nearly as well without over-recruiting the adductors.
