181230  Xmas... Busy... Travel... Tired....
Went on vacation for 6 days, and ultra busy b4 end of year. Jump/Lift  down the drain. Excuse Excuse.
Almost 2 weeks no lift... went back to lifting yesterday.... 40min squat session wrap up with 3 big plate squat x 3 reps.

Leg is tired the next morning. (which is a good thing, at least i dont have to wait 48hrs.. or who know.. might be pain is worsen after 48 hrs)
I like this sore feeling.

So this wrap up my 2018.
Feel like i had not accomplish much in 2018, All i did is maintain what i got... or in other word, stuck at bottle neck.

i recall there was a year where I jump to highest.. cloesting to dunk.
there was a year I squat the most with 3 cycle of russian squat.
and...there is this year where... um.. i just kept what i had with out getting older... and lower.

my left knee is still having werid issue.... like it is not stable.. and slight sore/pain when it is in twisting motion ( i can not pin point it yet).
I can still jump, and squat without pain... it just feel.. in-stable at specific angle through out my trip (where i have to walk alot).

Will be paying attention.

Today is the last day of 2018.  Wish everyone have a better 2019.
I should plan out my 2019 today!

151211  Jumping with Caution 30 min
With this... knee issue.. i will not trying to jump with Extended knee... But will try to get the penu step long.. and fast motion.

end up having one of the best jump.... consider i only have 30 min session.
I did some depth drop, single leg step up jump, depth jump (I just did like 6 reps... during / in between set of stand still jump) treating it like warm up.
also did push up and reverse chair push up in between jump.

Actually... I think i nailed one of the best jump in 2018  or at least very close to the best jump with my whole wrist over Rim 3.
not sure how reliable the following picture hosting site is. but here is the pic.
I think... with this height... I should really focus on lobbing now... (i know, i had said that many time before....)
in fact, i ALMOST Slamed on this rim in 2017  but i never landed one... and the same apply in 2018.
Never had a dunk on this rim....with 20 days left in 2018.

181209 Squat light fix form
Left knee still acting up, it is the main loading jumping foot since i plant left right.  I couls not pin point what is wrong, but when i walk around and change direction, i could feel some pain (not soreness) is waiting to appear. It is as if, something bad is going to happen. I try standing on one foot rotating slightly but could not really fins the trigger movement.

I couls still squat without any pain, but i did not dare to go heavy. I suppose the squat knee travel/range of motion is perfectly fine.

I tend to suspect it is the result of trying to plant my jump with extended leg.  I could feel the pain wamting to come whenever i stand on my left with a hyperextend sort of knee band...i am Not 100 percent sure.

I should foarm roll my quad as much as i can now.

Monday will not jump.

regarding knee pain/shins etc: you've come back to jump training hard, after a long layoff. have to be careful.

181205 Stiff Extended Plant lead to knee pain
Sunday Squat strength improved but i felt slight knee pain after.
Jumped a few session this week.  focus on stiff leg plant.

left knee is acting up... and is friday already.
i had jumped 2 times this weeks only.. i am not sure...

one thing is werid is.. my left SHIN started to have sore pain... i mean.. looking at the video. my jump had not changed much... even though i THINK i purposely stiff up my left CRASHING into a plant... but from the video.. the difference is not much...   yet.. kneed an shin pain...   wtf. i better form roll as hard as i can.

I end up struggling, just like a guy who had not ride a bike for 10 years and expect to go for a race.
Project end up over run by 1 month. Finally Completed on Nov 13.  Still could not finish the song smoothly in one go, but at least i got it in  pcs... and video edit them into one.

I only play at night.. 45min to 1 hr when ever one go to sleep. The beauty of electronic piano... able to adjust volume.

181115 Swimming Gala Relay Completed
This I try harder than last, I practiced at least 8 times... during lunch and night,  going from 70sec to 51 sec.

181018 Rain
I had been on and off this few week, with Jump and Squat.  I try to squat at least twice a week and jump as often as i can at lunch.

This time around, I felt a little different with a different mindset.   Over the pass years, I had been following premake program, as well as program designed from buddies on this site, and also program designed by professional over the web ( Jackw, and Taiwanese Jump coach).

They are all similar in a sense that I need to do 3 set of 8 with various exercises from 5 to 10 different variation. Even with Rest,  the ground contact is at least 200+ time.  Further more, because there is no actual COACH to watch me, the closest thing was I actualy filmed most if not all my exercise and sent it to the Taiwanese coach.  And i am not even sure if those boring footage was watched.

This time around... i cut down on variation and rep or set.
I only do exercise like single leg chair jump, depth drop, depth jump and on stationary stand still jump.  And i rest between reps.. i do like 6 reps... may be 8 depend on how i feel..
What i want to FOCUS is on... quality.... not quantity. I want to make sure I am doing triple extension with max effort... instead of... grinding jump after jump for 3 set of 10... with 15 sets to follow...

I dont know if things will be different.   I am not on any program or any phs for now.  I just squat to maintain or get back my strength and jump as often as i could... with that mindset.

just refuse to give up but this time.. i am really listening to my leg muscle instead of some written plan.

181008 AT the court for the second time
Last Tuesday squat morning mixed with afternoon jump was ok.... cant expect much
then the next 4 days turn in to hell mode....all muscle break down classic repeat.
I did try to go jump but can not even touch the rim...
the 1 hr recover swim did something on Friday night.

Went back to the Squat rack on a Sunday morning, and also ran 3 km at night with my kid  with a feel good sore leg.

Monday morning sleep in... failing to wake up to gym.
Monday lunch Jump session and i think i am back... touch all the time.
The good thing is.. guess the 2.5 month non jumping time did not pull me back much.

BTW, i meet a kid at 19 yrs old.. reaching higher than me by 6 inch or so... with a max reach just 2or3 inch taller than me..
he think i am in the 20x.....  I am... in fact.. getting close to 40s....

we traded Instagram as he will go to Australia to study in 2 weeks.  (kids do not use facebook now days... i feel Olllldddd lol)

leborn james is 6'8 with a good wing span.... he doesn't really NEED a 43 in vertical to take over.... he can get by with a 35' vertical.....

Depends on the perspective, the goal, where you see yourself going. If you intend to be just good or even very good, I very much agree. Lebron would still be an awesome player with 10'' less vert. But Lebron is not an awesome player, he is the best basketball player that ever lived ( says me, but even the worse hater would have him at top 5 ). If you are out to be GOAT, then you can't settle with getting by at anything. IMHO, for people that are the best in the world, at anything, be it sport, science, music, business, whatever, 'getting by' is an unknown word.

This remind me of that movie.  Whiplash 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDAsABdkWSc
what it take to be the best of... the universe

181006 Here it go again
So I resumed training last Tuesday, Squat in the morning Jump in the afternoon. and 24hrs later soreness attack... 48 hrs  I am limping.  So Tuesday Resume, Wednesday Rest, Thursday rest, Friday i am still in pain... but i went swimming with the kids (consider it recovery swim).

I am not really kicking during my freestyle, and my chest is so sore... due to those benchpress and push up i did...
hope i can suck it up and resume asap!.
