brb sprinting bilaterally.

That's why for me - jumping off two has never been natural. When you walk/run you don't bounce on two feet. Jumping is just an exaggerated, longer "step" on one leg to me. And we're built to move unilaterally.

(I actually jump off 1 foot as well, but jumping off 2 never felt natural to you because you are uncoordinated, not because it's a weird movement).

I jump off both 1 and 2 feet pretty darn good. Both feel completely natural. Maybe I'm just uber-coordinated.

I guess I didn't mention this before so my philosophy isn't really clear.

There is a difference in what I consider ball-handling drills and what you guys probably consider ball-handling drills.

I'm going to guess most people lump and kind of dribbling practice into ball-handling drills.

But what I was talking about and what I teach my kids are that ball-handling drills are (stationary, and 2-3 step drills w/ the ball), then I teach my kids that dribble-drive moves are (used on the go, or to break down a man 1-on-1 or in the open court or in the key under heavy pressure and defense).

I was only talking about ball-handling drills before and assumed that's what he meant. But I think he may have been asking more for what I consider dribble-drive moves. There's a completely different mentality when training these two different styles of dribbling.

can any one give me some suggestion on how to change my form?

First. You're putting yourself into a speed-drill and then wondering why your form is suffering. Any time you do a shooting speed-drill by yourself (no rebounder) your form is going to suffer. When shooting a layup you want to explode and run through the layup. You're changing your body movements in the air because you're landing from your jump and immediately turning to rebound your ball. If you are just running through it and not worrying about the rebound it will look slightly different.

Second. And most importantly. Definitely stop shooting right handed on the left-hand side. You're setting yourself up to be a shot blockers dream. Sure, it can help you scoop it up and under occasionally. But you're moving the ball a good 2 feet closer to your defender...there's no way to read that other than making it easier to get yourself blocked.

Third. Slam that last dribble. Powering that last dribble down before your two steps is just another way to key your body into an explosive movement. Watch most NBA players on fast breaks. Their last dribble is typically more controlled and more powerful than the ones leading up to it. They want that ball to stick to their hands as they go up. That definitely helps it.

Fourth. After you dribble, do not bring the ball across your body. It's natural for your arms to want to swing the ball across your body as you take your last two steps and leap. But all you're doing it bringing right to your defenders hands. Any decent defender and a competitive level can strip that ball without blinking or thinking twice. (Example: Watch your last layup. You take your dribble with your right hand...then you grab it with both hands and carry it immediately to your left hip. Then you carry it back across and shoot the layup.) When that ball is at your left hip, I will steal it. I won't even say thank you. I'll probably even ask your sister out, take her to a nice dinner, have a great time and never call her again. It will be that easy.

It's what I call wasted motion. What's the point of taking the ball across your body? A good layup isn't about height. It's about space between you and your defender and knowing what angle you should shoot and using the backboard. It's developing a soft touch with plenty of arch. There's no reason Steve Nash should be able to shoot a layup in the NBA w/ 7footers between him and the basket...but he's mastered those angles and a soft touch. So he does work on those big oafs.

Fifth. I know Adarq said it is slow. And it kind of is, but focus on removing that excess wasted motion, then work on speed. Slow it down more if you have to. Protect that ball and focus on that soft touch. Your speed will increase as your strength and athleticism increase from working out. If you don't protect the ball and get that soft touch though, what good will it do you? You could be the biggest, strongest, fastest brick layer ever! :)

unless you are a 12 year old learning the game, do NOT do stationary basketball drills other then a QUICK warmup.
i call complete bullshit.

I don't call complete BS, but it's definitely not a very wise statement. Stationary drills can be extremely helpful to kids/players of all ages. It just has to be the right kind of stationary work. It's all about difficulty and throwing in an added element to the work. There's literally thousands of variations of drills that are stationary and helpful to all ages.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Not rude at all. And I'm actually working on it.

www.callyourownfouls.com

It's barely even set up. It's going to be a part of my current pet project(s), www.NBAChat.co and www.NBAChatForum.co.

I do plan on having a personal/basketball blog. And I'm thinking about doing a weekly coaching feature or bi-weekly. Just depends on how much the whole chat-site and forum take up time-wise. But I have plans for it.

And yes, my bad on the defense post. I completely forgot. I'll try to do an abbreviate version in the next week or two. Honestly, I could go on for days about on-ball, man-to-man, zone, team-oriented, help and all other kinds of defense and techniques.

But thanks for reminding me, I'll definitely try to get some tips up on that for you in the next week or two. Work is starting to slow down for me and I'll have some more free time. Keep sending me reminders if I don't get it up for you soon.

The absolute best trick I learned to work and focus on my ball handling. And it's the way I tell all my kids I coach to do it to.

DO NOT PRACTICE DRIBBLING ON A BASKETBALL COURT!

I know, it sounds counter-intuitive, but the reason being, it's like you said originally. You just end up shooting because the goal is there. But find a place, no goal, and just practice dribbling. You won't be tempted to shoot since there is no goal to shoot at. And honestly, 15-25 minutes is more than enough to practice. Otherwise, you're going to tire out too much and not enjoy it or work hard/explosively on your moves.

That's all I have. I won't bother giving you actual drills. Most people just do whatever feels good to them and honestly, if you don't have examples given in person, it's hard to explain over text anyways.

Anyways, hope that tip helps.

Edit:
Okay, I lied. I have one more tip.

DRIBBLE HARD. Slam that ball down. Watch College/NBA players with amazing ball control. Even when they're just standing/jogging with the ball, they throw that ball down -way- harder than the average rec league player, etc. Slamming the ball down means it will come back to your hard with greater force, allowing the ball to stick into your hand via momentum/inertia. The greater the ball sticks to your hand...obviously the easier it will be to maneuver it.

Now I'm done. :)

Not bad bro. Good list. I don't really like Carmelo as the SF, I would've put LBJ there since I don't consider him a PF anymore w/ Bosh + Joel Anthony starting on the same team now but it's whatever.

Don't really agree with Joe Johnson being a honorable mention, but it's your list.

Good job, keep up the great work.
