really adarq? getting on the fivefingers bandwagon now, of all times?

what's 'of all times' mean? people are hopping off that bandwagon? or just, ya why so late?

ya.. i've always wanted to try them.. Now that my nzwr's are nowhere to be found, i'm going to try out these two pair of shoes. I'm all about the minimalist running style; These nike's I bought from footlocker feel like concrete boots lul.

you still rock teh vibrams? I figured you'd have something to say about them :) You wear 'vibram socks'? or do you go bare foot?

pc dude.

oh i just mean so late, after they got sued for false advertising and had to pay some millions of dollars to people who'd bought the shoes.

i went through the whole cycle with fivefingers, similar to with crossfit but less extreme: devotee-->hardcore opponent-->measured observer. they can be very beneficial, and they can completely fuck you up. although i have no real evidence for it, i think they hastened the onset of my arthritis. they transfer stress that is customarily focused on the knee to the ankles and feet and if you're not very careful that can and does lead to chronic and acute injury. personally i feel that for most people, they're probably better for walking around in or scrambling/hiking in than for running.

basically, caveat emptor, don't expect them to work miracles or be all that great. if you adjust to them carefully you might really enjoy them and have many years of healthy running in them. they're certainly better than running barefoot when all you've got to run on is asphalt and concrete. but you might also get achilles tendonosis.

the science of sport guys have written extensively and very well about the debate around barefoot running and VFF in particular. latest article is from just after the lawsuit settlement: http://www.sportsscientists.com/2014/05/vibram-lawsuit-barefoot-running-common-sense/
Muscles are nonsensical they have nothing to do with this bullshit.

~30min running. Some intervals thrown in. Very humid tonight.

Need to get some nice stretching in. Put it off until 'later tonight', now it's too late.

pC

ps: Someone posted this pic in #jumping today for some unknown reason.. I remember this jump distinctly, really felt like a perfect jump.

Warm up drills
   - a walk, b skip quick powerful switch (heel to hams focus), a runs, dribbles small to big to run, straight leg to runs (force, reflex, go up/forward). force to hit the ground before it hits the ground knee/hip is at 90 degrees.
   - acceleration: low heel recovery, shin angle low, drive legs back before hitting the ground and drive thighs/knee forward not up

Measuring reminder:

I have one project that I never really mentioned, it's been on my mind alot over the last few years. I want to open a "half boxing gym, half hacker dojo". The fusion of athletics and nerdom is something I'm very interested in. The same dedication/passion we bring to athletics/training carries over directly to our intellectual goals (which is where we will most likely see our career/financial success).

pC dude

Can't believe I missed this, I love the idea of the project, training is a hobby and the nerd training hacker for career cos you shouldnt soley rely on athletics as to bring food to the table just my opinion. There is def more career and financial success in IT or engineering , hacking computer skills in this case than sports, unless you are exceptioon ally good like Floyd pacquiao etc

I would come to that cyber gym lol

Definitely love the idea

and he continues in same interview with

"And then in May, I am fighting in May. I have a big surprise for you all. Everybody, tune in,"

Everyone is shouting pacquiao Lol I hope

195.. ya man i havn't done ANYTHING in a year, been focused on tech.. My main focus is tech, but definitely want to get my weight back down & get my speed up (running). Sometimes you have to completely detach from something you're addicted too i guess... in order for it not to rule your life. I have a very addictive personality so.. But ya my future is tech. There's so much to learn & I mostly work with great people; passionate about innovation/learning etc.

wow.. didn't see that coming. That was a brutal fight for him, not his normal 'ez-work'. But ya, you're right, he knows he could wreck Maidana. Plus, if the ref tries to make the fight 'cleaner' (no hitting + holding etc), mayweather wins alot easier.

That's awesome though. I'd love to see him wreck pac.

Got my Vibram's (Biklia's) yesterday..... DAMN. I couldn't run slow in them. It almost felt like I was in shape.

Ran ~1 mile to feel them out. Definitely made my feet/lower legs a bit sore. So far so good, really enjoyed running in them.

I feel what you're saying but com'on... you're smarter than this.

It's great that you have a new thing going on, but it doesn't mean it has to totally control your life and transform you into this unhealthy nerd or whatever.

You can still train and do stuff. You can and you should afford say 1 hour per day to do athletic stuff and pay more attention to your nutrition etc.

Really happy.. Didn't journal it but, last thursday (07/03) I reinjured my calf running in my new nb minimus trail's (they put my foot into some nice dorsiflexion). So this really old calf tear injury resurfaced, couldn't run at all.

So today:

3.5 mile  run, nice and relaxed.
- listened to a really nice erlang lecture.

whew.

I see what you're saying. I watched my diet at least. Eating healthy does wonders. Even though my weight ballooned up, eating healthy and  'standing' while doing most of my computer stuff kept me at a basic (surprising) level of shape.

But ya now it's time to turn some of the fitness stuff back on, it's that time. :F

thanks man, pc raptor
