Andrew, man, it's hard to describe how all of this feels to me...I'm really happy for you man, really. Gotta be proud of all of this man, no matter what the outcome was. That first dunk was DA SHIT. And next time you'll get into that final round bro. And I agree with all the other guys here: that pic=LEGENDARY!

i havn't eaten since afternoon.. and im not hungry.. man my body is freaked the fuck out.. so fucking odd..

151 right now, 155 this morning..

im going to eat a turkey sandwich even though im not hungry.

athletic anorexia crew bout to represent.. slrvj time.

HAHAHAHH!! damn right.

pity about the comp man, kill it next year! mayb after u start practising with those low lobs u could learn some tricks, then next year it'll be different.

i mean, if doing what ur doing now, one and 2 handers, gets u into top 4, once u get some tricks down u'd be killing it.

ya i hope they do it again in miami next year.. i bet they will, the crowd/atmosphere was very nice.

if i'm not 100x better by next sprite showdown then.... lol

I remember when I saw Shal jumping off one leg - it definitely clicked something in my mind in terms of how much more speed I can use and power. If this guy can do it, I can do it too! And I could feel it inside that I could do it, just not at this strength level. But I could feel it - I usually don't feel it when I know I can't do it, but in that case, I knew I could jump like that.

Once you witness real jumpers first person, you kind of start to realize it's possible for you too.

ya well the biggest thing i noticed was, myree/airdogg are built like tanks, i'm built more like werm.. i do seem to have gained some good SLRVJ ability without directly training it max effort, it all makes sense.. my half squatting/warmup layups was enough to help build my single leg, time to max it.

Quote
For me personally, when I participated at the dunk contest in 2006 here in Romania, in order not to get jelly legs, I kept all this arrogant attitude inside me, you really have to have swagger and think you're better than anybody and can't wait to show that to the world. That's the mentality you need to have and really believe into.

ya well mentally i was fine.. my double leg was jello today too, but my single was crazy... i think it's just a matter maximizing my strengths, ie, half squatting helps me a ton, ive optimized it from deep to half & got better gains.. i think it's time to optimize my jumping from double to single..

Quote
You should be like "I've trained for this, this is what I want to do, I'm going to kick yo ass". Also, although it might sound silly, you can/need to swear a lot in your mind. Because using "bad" words kind of makes your swagger increase. It's all psychological.

right i did that.. i just felt like gravity was 20m/s^2 + legs shaky.

Quote
In a fight for example, when you swear at the other guy, you kind of prepare yourself mentally for the fight because you're "ready" and you can afford to swear at that guy so that means you're stronger than him, since you can afford to do that. There's a whole mental mechanism at the base of all this stuff so I thought about sharing it.

PS. Like I said, you have the structure, you said you don't have the strength to jump off one leg (I was like WTF? - since you're much more stronger than me and much lighter at the same time). If I can jump 34 maximall off one leg you should go near 40 or so.

nah i have the strength to jump off one leg.. it always scares me when my achilles achesthough, so i stop training it.. but i need to progress slowly and overcome that..

ill take footage off my caam from today, later, i had some really good jumps off single leg pretty sure of it.. a few really hard throw downs that flew out crazy..

slrvj time.

OHH YEAHHHHH, SLRVJ FTW!  There's hardly any of us on here at adarq.org lol

yup, already started the transition today.. :)

added to pics abov, my fav pic of them lmao

spot the guy who looks out of place......

no racism , but man you were the only one white?

yup hahah :F

i mean one guy was spanish, so all black guys, 1 spanish, 1 white :F

andrew...this needs to now by your profile picture/facebook pic...and you and i need to be facebook friends also

dude i'm so excited to see you start hitting the tricks dude!...and to see you get that single leg vert close to your double!

whens the next local contest? if you can get one or two tricks down by then...winner for sure!

power to the white man!!!!! haha

hit me up on da face boo.

dno i need to find another local contest, it's summer time, has to be one pretty soon..

i think my single leg rvj will eclipse my double before july..

lol @ whitepower... ya i shoulda been final four, bugs me i couldnt just land a damn dunk in round 2B.. solame.

congrats bro thats awesome! pretty good id say for your first contest and considering u werent getting up 100%. hope you do another one soon. Really interested to see what youre going to do for your slrvj, thats what im gong to being focusing on this summer.

thanks so much man.. trained SLRVJ today, so far, looks crazy promising.. it looked promising last month after i trained it for 1 session also..... btu next day my achilles was aching so i stopped, because that scared me for ~3 days or so and wrecked my dunking.. now i can phase this stuff in properly, should be good.

so do you get to keep the sprite gear?

ya!@$!@$! haha

got some sick shorts and that jersey.. gonna rock those shorots in my dunk vids :F

deal, awesome.. hah

sounds like i still need to practice double leg occasionally, koz right now i have no idea how id do that off single :)

40 $ For a clean 360 after i get my first sallary!

sheeeeeeeeeeeit!$$!$%#@

sick, finna b rich..... if i make a 360..

dammit i need this video to get done rendering, like 3 more hours for werm vs airdogg to render... then 10+ hours to upload to youtube, but in that time ican take still frames/pictures of their dunks etc, which is always fun to see.. plus i want to get my SLRVJ footage off my cam today, felt like some sick jumps.

thanks soooooo much man.. ya, im still proud.. im glad that, even when my legs are toast, i can still land dunks.. thats pretty cool.. it used to be that i'd have to try so hard just to land one dunk, and that was feeling great.. now when im feeling great, i land tns of dunks.. regardless it was fun, i loved being there..

the cool thing about all of this is, when i do contests in the future, you better believe it'll make this sprite footage look like crap.. that experience opened my eyes to alot of things that I already have been trying to fix: conditioning/bodyweight/single leg... ill be going into the next contest in 100x better shape, lighter, and with SLRVJ ability.

hopefully by next sprite I can shut it down.

pC man & ya i love that pic too, looks really cool.. i had to mesh the pic together unfortunately, because someone was standing in the middle taking the picture, then they moved to the left to take the picture again etc.. so i used masking technique to get his ass out of the pic hah.

I wonder how and if your training will change going for a higher SLVJ

Would you say the need for specificity will increase? More lunges/BSSs/one-leg deadlifts or just continue with half squats?

For example, I was thinking about your LTMP thing but I was thinking about using the lunge or BSS instead of the half squat daily for more one-leg specificity...

not much really.. i have a problem with unilaterals because of my sacral spine issue..

in june i plan on backing off from daily squatting, so, im going to be hitting plate swings/calves/reactive work more.. + more conditioning.. and more SLRVJ max work.. that alone will have me getting up pretty good on slrvj.. i plan on squatting every other day or every 4th day.. definitely not every day.

You know how you were saying your legs went jello outta nowhere.  And Nightfly said it happens to him.  And I saw ur dunk contest vid on youtube, people commenting on there saying it happens to everyone.

What is it?  I don't get it.  Why does jelly legs happen to everyone who's new to dunk contests?  Is it a stage fright kind of thing? I wouldn't think so cuz you didn't look nervous at all.
Goal is to dunk.

Vertical needed to dunk: 40"

Current vertical : 38.5"
