Never seen you dunk on that court before...

Anyways, adarq, on my SLRVJ I feel some collapsing on the ankle in the plant.  To remedy this, does it just come down to strengthening my calves (calf raises) ??

Also, is there a way to get "stiffer ankles"?
Thanks.
Goal is to dunk.

Vertical needed to dunk: 40"

Current vertical : 38.5"

ya it's my fav court when it rains.. it's finally re-opened, been closed all summer because of a daycare basketball camp.

you have to strengthen them maximally & dynamically.. maximally would be things like double & single leg standing calf raises + seated calve raises + various inversion/eversion strengthening exercises with tubing or just by itself..

dynamic strength would be stuff like single/double leg line hops for speed, single leg balance board, sprints, and all types of low level reactive work such as lateral barrier jumps, pogos, mr halftucks etc.

the stuff above is a start and will help to give you stiffer ankles, eventually once you make alot of progress with the basics, you could then graduate to single/double leg bounds, depth jumps, etc.

Any idea on how to fix pronated ankles? It doesn't bother me at all, it just looks weird and can get worse as time goes on I'm sure. I'm probably on a scale of 1-10 a 2 for severity. I don't have $250 bucks to dish out to buy custom orthotics. It's not associated with any pain or anything, just wondering how to get it fixed.

Would inversion drills help?

Thanks.

unfortunately i never give advice on that stuff.. i've never worked with it to the extend i'd need to, to give advice on it.. it's better to talk to a foot specialist etc, but try to find some solutions other than orthotics.

adarqui said that he had disc, back injuries from deadlifting years ago... he had those lightning bolts too...

You did? So you had the same problem as I have now? What did you do to solve it?

yup, had shooting pains down my leg from horrible form deadlifts, before i knew anything about proper training/while i was in computer science, could barely walk, lasted about 3 months, thats why i got obsessed with exercise science, to fix myself.

i did tons of prone superman's and then eventually progressed to 45 degree hypers, thats how i fixed my back.. took months.

a few real hard dunks, some of these stills are from my warmup jumps, forget which.

i hate how the heat shuts me down.. indoor i can go 30+ jumps and feel good.. outdoor with lots of heat, 15 is tough.

that's what exactly what I thought: it really looks like a clean court. and that is priceless for a dunker.
