Sup guys, came here from Raptors forum, was no fun posting there since the fourm pretty much died, deleted my acc there, hope you aint mad about it Coach, i greatly appreciate your help there.

So Im 19, 6"3 with shoes, 6"5 wingspan, about 8"2 reach with shoes,
My max running LR plant vert should be really close to 40", i can jump solid with other 3 plants but not as good as with LR.

First dunked last spring, by the winter i was doing 360s and backboard 2 handers, and by now im doing a bunch of other stuff like windmills, pumps, all kinds of 360 variations, etc.
So since i dunked a windmill last week, my foucs is on eastbay now, i need a few more inches, better timing, and better flexibility.

Also got a ton of videos on my youtube channel, here are some of the latest:

Thanks Chris! You got mad bounce! My training is dunking itself, i try to get at least 3-4 sessions every week:
a) dunk every other day
b) dunk 2 days in a row rest 1 day
c) dunk 3 or more days in a row rest 1-3 days depending how i feel

On rest days i try not to jump but its a hard thing to do haha, but staying active, do some cardio or some calisthenics for upper body and core, and then after that rest I always feel them gains.

But the problem is i dunk on concrete and blacktop most of the time, if i had gym access i could dunk 24/7 every day of the week, but cant do that on hard surfaces, joints dont like it,
And that is the reason i plan to start some strenght training...

Lifting will definitely help you! You sound very similar to where I was before I started lifting so I hope you can make similar gains! Keep dunking and jumping often tho!

@maxent Thanks a lot man! Long way for 50" tho, need a lot more strenght for that, so yeah i plan to lift, not sure bodyweight exerices can do much for real strenght...
Squats, box squats, deadlifts, hip thrusters, calf raises, etc. i plan to do those as soon as i get myself in a gym,
not sure what is the programme exactly gonna look like but one of the reasons i registered here is so i could ask for advices from you guys who have a lot more experience.

We should have a dunk session today so hopefully ill film some stuff and post it here later

@ChrisM So lifting helped you a lot? Do you know how many inches you gained in first 3 months of lifting? Asking cuz im thinking about doing bouncekit programme as soon as it comes out

Lifting does help a lot. When i was your age, i couldn't dunk (not for a lack of trying). I was same height, etc. And i wasn't completely unathletic compared to the average person. But still only had about a 22" vert, enough to touch the rim but that was it. With lifting i got it up over 30" - and i'm not special, i'll prob never reach 36" - but if i had started with mid 30s without lifting i have no doubt i'd get in 40s with lifting. Everyone is different though, so who knows what you'll get out of it. But you should definitely plan to find out! :)

I see, about 10 inches of gains sounds pretty worthy of trying

Well, don't hold your breath for going from 40 to 50. And i don't mean it is not doable. I mean progress gets much MUCH harder at this level. It is much harder to go from 30 to 40 than from 20 to 30 and even more from 40 to 50.
But yeah, I agree with everyone, strength train is the way, you have been training your RFD a lot with all those jumps and dunks, increasing your limit strength would help you. 45 is definitely doable. As for 50? Why not, stick around, work hard and lets see what happens.
I would say, listen a lot to ChrisM, it looks like you two are very similar athlete cases.

"The forum died" simply because I'm not in the mood of promoting it/writing stuff anymore due to reasons not related to it.

What worked for me was finding out what type of athlete I was and tra8ning my weaknesses HARD. I'm more quad dominant so Ive focused on bringing my PC up to par with my quad strength, its taken a while but they're much more balanced now. As a result so am I.

I wouldnt take my first 3 months as anything to look at, i trained very stupidly for my first 6-9 months before I figured out what worked for me. All my gains from my first few months can easily be attributed to getting back in shape and playing ball again for the first time in 2 years.

If i were to look at the 3 months after I got back in shape (comparable to hs and college me performance wise) I easily gained a few inches. It was much more pronounced on my SVJ and 1 step jumps. The gains for full out ME jumps took a bit longer to see.

i've always seen very positive benefits both mentally/physically from flax seed oil.. why havn't I been supplementing with it? great question.. thanks for reminding me, I'll get some tomorrow.

glucosamine is worth a shot.. also, contrast showers and ice can really help.

I take both...my left knee thanks me lol! Its not a MAJOR difference but it does help it not be as 'creaky'. Like Adarq said tho ice and/or contrast showers help quite a bit. Combine them all with a decent diet and stretching and it makes a substantial difference.
