chondroitin is a different thing from glucosamine. they're often combined, as they are in the pills i take (i think it's target brand). i take glucosamine HCl, which is the only formulation that has even tentative scientific evidence behind it. chondroitin has, as far as i know, absolutely no benefit over placebo. since the glucosamine part of the pill also doesn't seem to have any effect for me i'm not spending any more money on it.

YMMV, if the stuff makes you feel better then by all means keep taking it.

Right...i felt no different taking glucosamine chindroitin. I switched up to one that has a MSM compound, now my knees 'pop' less and i have less aches joint wise.

Like you say tho YMMV, use according to how you feel.

again, chondroitin is completely different from glucosamine. they are not related. when you put them together they do not become something new. it's like if you enjoy salt and also pepper, so you decide to mix pepper and salt into one shaker. your new thing is not "saltpepper," it is just those two things in one vessel.

if you took a glucosamine pill that has chondroitin in it and felt nothing, and then switched to a glucosamine pill that has MSM in it, then the MSM is probably what's making you feel better. or placebo. or nothing and it's just a coincidence.

Yea sorry, I didn't do a very good job relaying that.  :/ What i meant was are you taking glucosamine or glucosamine WITH chindroitin....which is what most people grab off the shelf. It may be placebo effect but I notice a slight difference when i switched to the MSM 'formula' for lack of a better term.

Hell fwiw some say Glycine is better for joint mobility and such. Its all hit or miss IMO.

i take glucosamine and notice no effect whatsoever. doing it out of habit now but once i'm done with the bottle i have i'm not gonna get another one.

spoke with a guy who weared out all of his knee cartilage, said glucosamine didint help him one bit.. they say it usually takes even 2-3 months to feel the difference of taking glucosamine, but for some people it seems not to work at all

nothing will save your knee cartilage. if you're that worried about it, switch to swimming.

nah man if i was that worried about it i wouldnt be dunking 5 days a week on concrete, im just curious about all that., youre right, shit is gonna wear out anyway, but obviously there are ways to at least slow down, delay that process

lets say if i was gonna do depth jumps 2-3 weeks every day, how much should i do per session, 20? 30?

yes i was being sarcastic, obviously you are not going to take up swimming.  ;)  the only way to slow down the wear and tear is to do less work and get rest. everything else is (probably) voodoo. taking glucosamine or glycine or whatever probably isn't going to hurt but the chance of them helping significantly is low. ice will not save your cartilage. etc.

in response to your question: what? you want to do depth jumps every day? don't do that. that's a terrible idea. but yeah ~20-25 total reps/session is probably okay.
