BODYWEIGHT- 91KG :uhhhfacepalm:
WAIST- 39 inches
BODYFAT- 23.4%
SORENESS- Calves/Achilles- they were improving but I think the jump rope I did this week aggravated them.

I ran my 200m and it was pretty disappointing in the end.
25.59 FAT
I guess apart from being fat I haven't done any speed work or speed endurance because it's been aggravating my achilles too much so all my training has just consisted of intensive tempo, which helps with fitness but not with getting faster. Oh well plenty of time to tweak things. This is complete broscience but I've been thinking perhaps an extra 1% bodyfat equats to an extra 0.1 seconds in the 100m. So if I lost 10% bodyfat that should lead to a loss of 1 second on my 100m, which would lead to a 2 seconds loss on my 200m assuming I'm in shape.

GYM-

Front Squats-
40x4
60x4
77.5x4x3

Rows-
40x10
60x10
70x10
80x10x2

Sit Ups-
23x2

SORENESS-
Achilles/Calves- Expected this because of the speed endurance yesterday. I was also reviewing my log and I realised that my achilles was improving when I was only running every 2nd day so it's probably running consecutive days, which has been hampering the recovery.

GYM-

Bench-
barx12
60x8
77.5x5x3

Incline DB Bench-
12x12
18x12
22x8
26x5x3

Chin Ups-
7,7,6

Assisted Pull-Ups-
12,12,11,10

Sit Ups-
23x2

Lol, your broscience bodyfat estimates are pretty entertaining...  Think of it more in terms of weight... sprinting is tough to calculate but as far as simple vertical displacement with equal power its pretty accurate actually tonestimate just using a ratio of weights...  for example your 200 lbs and if you cut to 180 then 200/180 = 1.11.  So you would have an increase of vertical displacement increase of about 11%.

Ive run fat and skinny and buff and I can tell you raw weight hurts more in the 200 and 400 whether its fat or muscle...  from my personal experience I think if you get under 180 your un 23.x.

We'll test the 11% vertical displacement in real life. There are All Comers events in my city all up the way up to March. In 4 months I should be able to lose 20lbs. The biggest challenge atm is dealing with my Achilles, which is severely comprimising my training. Although, untrained I’ve run 23.x before doing nothing but rugby and weights so weight loss alone should result in much improved performance.

SORENESS-
Calves/Achilles
Hamstrings

TRACK-
I was planning to do 3x200m but than after the meet on Saturday I felt like doing 100s instead.

Stretch/Warm Up

1x100m- 13.0
4 minutes rest
1x100m- 13.1
4 minutes rest
1x100m- 13.1
4 minutes rest
1x100m- 13.2
4 minutes rest
1x100m- 13.2
4 minutes rest-
1x100m- 13.1
4 minutes rest
1x100m- I tweaked my hamstring. My hamstrings were feeling sore after the weekend and already during the session I was planning not to lift weights tonight but I pushed myself because I wanted to keep up the low 13 speed. Between the 40m-50m mark I felt my right hamstring pull.

I won't be able to run or do any squats for a couple of weeks now. Full speed sprinting is probably out of the question for at least a month. This is just typical I never listen to my body. During my warm up my right hamstring was already feeling tight but I tried to work through it, which was a mistake. I should've just called it a day after the 4th rep but instead I had planned to do 8 100s. At the very least I should've reduced the speed but my ego/head said otherwise to my detriment. #Injuryprone

Apart from the gym I might also turn my attention back to my vertical and dunking again as well- that is why I joined this site in the first place. Obviously I'd need to get lighter though otherwise I'll just destroy my achiles/joints.

I struggled to sleep last night because of my hamstring. I think I've actually torn it instead of just tweaked it. I iced it last night and there's no bruising but I can't walk properly or bend over so it's fucked. All I can do now is focus on my diet. I do love running but I"m becoming disillusioned with it. This is the 3rd hamstring tear in 4 years that I've had now. I'm thinking of playing social basketball now instead because this is just mentally and physically fucking me.

fuck.... ;/

you said it in one of your previous posts, got to listen to your body man.. right now rest up, don't mess with it. hopefully it's not as bad as you think it is.

when you're healthy again (in the near future), pin your recent post about ego/listening to your body and use it to help keep you in check. the most important thing in this hobby of ours is staying healthy. We MUST keep that as our #1 priority. Once you're healthy again (and you will be), don't let yourself make this mistake again. If we get hurt in an actual competitive event, it makes more sense; but not in training. We all fall victims to this (overdoing it in training). I know I have several times. It's always on my mind, i'm always trying to stay healthy. It's kind of like putting our hands on a stove but instead of it feeling hot/burning us, it feels great and then burns us.

I partially tore a hamstring tendon at the insertion loong ago.. around 2009. That really sucked but eventually it healed and I could go 100% on it. I imagine you feel like you tore yours at the muscle belly?

Yeah it was such a stupid thing to do especially just in training. I should've just kept doing intensive tempo and built up my base whilst losing weight and gaining my weight room strength back. My hamstring feels dreadful now. I can't walk without limping but it's not bruised. I probably have a Category II tear.

I saw this post in another thread but this pretty much sums it up for me:

"Sprinters have a tendency to go too fast in training--I know I do, and I know others who do. In my case, the "season" here up north is short and I am impatient to run fast quickly. That's a recipe for injury, and it happens all the time with sprinters.

There is a BIG catch-22 in sprint training: the better your sprinting form, the less likely you are to get injured; but you need to train a lot during a period of bad form in order to achieve good form, which is a recipe for injury. So slowly building up in the sprints to good form, AND THEN MAINTAINING THE TRAINING is essential, as that is the way to really avoid injury. The problem is that people take breaks, and resume training with bad form, and get injured, and then stop sprint training altogether.

Because of the injury cycle related to sprint training and the pain of overdistance training, almost no post-collegians train for sprints, and unless you can take a break in the middle of the day to train with college or pro guys, you will be training largely alone, which can suck.

So bad form combined with a built-in desire to go too fast and a bad pain profile sets up the perfect storm for injury, which repeats itself, and is a drag to deal with, especially alone as sprinters often have to".

This year has just been really bad. Barely played rugby and managed to break my cheekbone. Barely did any physical activity, yet somehow developed Achilles tendinitis. Barely went back to running and managed to pull my hamstring :(

Edit- Just saw your edit. I'm not sure where the insertion point is but my pain is around the middle of the hamstring. I'm definitely taking your advice and just resting it though.

BODYWEIGHT- 90.1KG

5 days later and I can finally walk without limping. I lasted 8 days without drinking as well but I slipped up last night and had 7 beers and a couple of barcadi and cokes. I'm supposed to go to my girlfriends sisters party tonight but I might just stay home and watch The Wire instead because I know if I go out I won't be able to resist getting on the piss. I'm planning to hit the gym up again now that my hamstring is letting me walk again- obviously just stick to upper body lifting for now though.

13th December-
Bodyweight- 89.9KG
Waist- 38.5 inches
Bodyfat- 22.8%

good to hear about the hamstring. did it ever end up bruising? do you think it's going to heal up faster than you initially expected?

also..  :highfive: @ The Wire.. such a great show. What season are you on?

Well initially when I tore it there wasn't that much pain compared to the one I had in 2012 so I thought it was only going to take a couple of weeks or a month at most to heal. I woke up the next day and it felt a lot worse than the day before and I was limping and this continued on from Tuesday morning to Friday when I could finally walk freely. However, there was no bruising so I know it can't be that severe. My achilles (left one mainly) is still giving me issues I need to do more eccentric loading with it to try and heal it up.

The Wire is such a boss show. I ended up binge watching The Wire last night and finished Season 3 but I've actually seen the whole series before. In terms of favorite Seasons for me it's 3,4,1,5,2.

The more I watch The Wire the more I end up hating Carcetti.  Watching Season 3 it's hard watching Stringer continually ignore Marlo as a threat and think he can civilize people. After playing Brother Mouzone he was always on borrowed time, but under Stringer's watch the Barksdale organisation fell apart because he tried to run it as a business and lost sight of the fact that it was violence and reputation that was what got them there and kept people in check. You could see he had completely lost his mind when he asked Slim Charles to hit Senator Davis.

s3 is when Marlo & Snoop are introduced right? That season and the next, are nuts.

Yep that's S3 but you don't see much of Snoop in S3.
