I had an interview today as a 'Decision Maker' at the Department of Home Affairs. I applied for this position back in June. The position is conducting interviews with clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and processing visa and citizenship applications. I didn't hear anything back until August where I got invited to a 'Work Sample Test', which was a 45 minute written assessment to a couple of questions. At the time I thought I did okay in the written assessment, although I didn't hear back from them.

About 3 weeks ago I received an email inviting me to an interview. There was a panel of 3 people and the interview went for approximately 30 minutes. After the interview I thought I aced it, but as always there is always room for improvement. Personally I thought I could have clarified a couple of explanations I provided. I asked when I was likely to hear back on whether I was successful at attaining the position and they said mid-late October. It's similar pay to my current position but being in Federal Government it's 15.4% super and great job security. I'll wait and see what happens.

For everyone that's followed my journals and as the title suggests, I've always had an issue with alcoholism. I posted a status on facebook about how I pledged to go sober for 30 days and received the following comment from one of the best players in the league.

"You got this brother I believe in you. Your a mad footy player and heaps fast you can deal with this issue i got your support bro"

I've decided not to drink alcohol for at least 30 days and I joined the gym today. Making small positive steps. The gym is Anytime Fitness and it's a 2 minute drive from my house so I have no excuses not to go. I've made it through day 1 without drinking alcohol.

Squat-
First time squatting in months and after a few sets my legs were toast, particularly my hamstrings. I plan to increase the volume and do more sets with higher reps once my legs get used to squatting again.

Trap Bar Deadlift-
This is the first gym I've been to that actually has a trap bar deadlift, which is pretty cool. They also have bumper plates.

Chin Ups

Overall it was a pretty good workout and it's good to be back lifting weights again  ;D

5x3

Wednesday 2nd October-
BW- 93.1kg
Standing on toes for 45 seconds with 1 minute break between sets
5x3

It's now day 4 on my 30 day no alcohol challenge. The first few days were easy but it's now becoming more challenging as every day feels like a great day to have a beer or 10. However, I've been keeping myself busy by reading books and watching tv to pass the time.  30 days seems like a long time but I'm just taking it day by day.

Training-
I still had some DOMS from squatting a few days ago. However, I had a rest day yesterday so I made myself squat today.

Squat-
barx12
60x6
85x3
105x3 for 3 sets
90x7
80x10

Legs are fried!

Hammer Strength Rows-

85x9 for 3 sets

Chin Ups

Pull Ups
bwx4 for 2 sets

Planks-
5 sets of holding for 20 seconds

I was going well on my 30 day challenge until last night where I lapsed and today. My brother is down from Brisbane and we drank a carton of beer last night. We bought another carton this afternoon and have just been having a BBQ and drinking. I'll restart my 30 days from tomorrow.

I didn't train yesterday but did my Achilles rehab exercises yesterday and today. I had 15 beers last night and felt like shit this morning but went to the gym.

Friday 11th October-
BW- 92.9kg
6 days without alcohol now.

Achilles Rehab-
I had another appointment with the physio today and have been given some new exercises to incorporate. I have another appointment scheduled for next Friday as well.

The program I got given was to do the following calf exercises on Day 1, Day 2, Rest Day 3, Day 4, Day 5 and have a break on Day 6 and 7.

1. Single leg calf hold for 25 seconds repeated 5 times. 3 sets.
2. Calf raises (double leg) for 12 reps. 3 sets.

In total that will be 4 times a week.

In addition, the physio also wants me to continue on with the 3x5 double leg calf holds that i was previously doing for 45 seconds 3x5. However, instead of doing these daily just do them twice a week and reduce the hold time down to 30 seconds with a barbell. I will incorporate these into my squat workouts.

Gym-

Squat
60x6
80x3
100x3
112.5x3
95x7
85x10

Double leg calf hold for 30 seconds with 40kg of weight (barbell + 10kg on each side)
3 sets of 5 reps
My calves felt absolutely toast after this!

Chin Ups
bwx10
bw+10kgx5

Pull Ups
bwx6x2

Glute Bridges
12 reps for 4 sets. I didn't use any weight for these because it's a new exercise for me.

Clamshells
12 reps for 3 sets on each leg

Single leg calf hold for 25 seconds repeated 5 times. 3 sets. Both legs.
Calf raises (double leg) for 12 reps. 3 sets.
