Title: attempting to max out at least once a week
Post by: fast does lie on March 14, 2013, 08:22:49 pm
doing working sets is good.  but why are some of you so adamantly against attempting to max out 1RM.  what is the logic behind it?

You just found out why you're getting stuck and keep getting pinned.

a max set is a working set. not sure who you're saying is against working up to a 1RM. i'm doing that right now every workout and loving it. kf does it almost every single day. but there's a difference between trying to hit absolute PR's every day, which is a huge drain on CNS, and working up to a max that you can handle.

In other words - a difference between a daily max and a true, psyche-out max.

The training max should have very little grind correct?

Well yeah, pretty much. It should be very difficult but not at the level where you need to psyche out and burn on the CNS a ton in order to complete that rep.

The idea is to stimulate, not to annihilate. When you psyche out you overload the CNS and you're going to need a ton of recovery time to get back to your old self. A daily max is just a hard rep but nothing so hard that you can't recover from pretty quickly.

Hey be optimistic - there's still time!

grind as in how smooth upward motion is?

Yeah none of those 5 second slow grinders... The rep should slow down a little but not enough to allow a grind
