Title: is 5/3/1 a good routine for track/bball/vball athletes?
Post by: fast does lie on July 18, 2012, 02:13:19 pm
Also, should track/bball/vball athletes keep the workouts under 1 hour?  So would playing bball for 1.5 hours and then lifting after for 1 hour be too much even if you have gatorade and protein drink the entire time?

Try to keep your lifting sessions under an hour. If you're going to lift directly after playing ball, make sure you've got plenty of food and protein. You go catabolic during that session, you die. :)

I used to play INTENSE bball for 2-3 hrs without any kind of carbs or protein.  I did have a large reserve of glycogen and fat.  Was that still very bad and did that cause me to burn lots of muscle?

Quite possibly. I feel the most important times to be eating a fuckload of food is before and directly after ANY training session. Regardless of length. While some would argue that 2-3 hours is fine, I would look to eat (praps a protein shake) half way through that session.
