Title: alex maroko michigan state eckard college basketball the king of quickness
Post by: adarqui on March 07, 2011, 05:22:16 pm
ok i publically apologize to alex maroko over this issue: i believed he had never been on the team at eckerd when in fact he was on it.. there are still discrepancies over many of the things he has said regarding eckerd, but on this issue, he did actually make the team.. I doubt he was recruited like he says, based on coach Tom Ryan's response to my email...

fml.

ok so scrap what's below except for the h.s. comment, did he play h.s. ??? you'd assume so considering he had some talent enough to 'walk on mid-season' at eckerd, probably due to people failing their semester's (good point man) but that still doesn't indicate a recruited player out of high school, dno..

ok so people keep messaging me on live chat saying Alex Maroko didn't even play high school basketball. Now, I never doubted he played high school ball, making that up would just be ridiculous to me. So if anyone has any facts post em` because that is just insane if it's true.

anyway, there's no account of him playing at Eckard University (or redshirting <-- oldest lie in the book), or playing anywhere in michigan other than a jewish community center intramural league apparently:

WAZZUP ROBYN BERKOWITZ I SEE U MA.

someone post some facts I don't do any digging on this issue anymore.

Sincerely,

http://web.westbloomfield.k12.mi.us/wbhs/announcements/2005-2006-announcements/2005-2006%20Announcements.pdf

In the 2005-2006 announcements, they list the top performer's in each basketball game, no mention of Maroko, an Example:

Quote
THE VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM IMPROVED THEIR RECORD TO 6-2 LAST NIGHT WITH A WIN OVER ROCHESTER.
MIKE PRZYDZIAL LED WITH 15 POINTS AND 15 REBOUNDS.  JOSH EICHELBERGER HAD 14 POINTS.  LAMONT CALHOUN AND ALEX
PITMAN EACH HAD 10 POINTS.  THE LAKERS WILL BE HOME AGAINST SOUTHFIELD LATHRUP AT 7 PM ON Friday.

There is mention of his sister however:

Quote
THE JV GIRLS CRUSHED AVONDALE LAST NIGHT 50-33.  ALLISON BURRELL LED EITH 14 POINTS.  EMELLE MCCONNEY
HAD 11 POINTS AND ABBY MAROKO HAD 8.  THE GIRLS WILL TAKE ON PONTIAC NORTHERN TOMORROW NIGHT IN
THEIR LAST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON.  GOOD LUCK.

think he played at D2 school in FLA

you mean eckerd collge? in tampa florida?

http://www.eckerdtritons.com/

http://www.eckerd.edu/

explain to me how someone can "redshirt" for eckerd college when they have absolutely no high school basketball news stats anywhere.. or maybe he walked on? how do you walk on then red shirt?

i can't believe maroko didn't even play high school bball, honestly that is shocking to me.. if he didn't play h.s. bball no way in hell he's "red shirting" for eckerd..

People aren't understanding the significance of a Florida D2 school scouting a kid from Michigan. He would have had to be one of the top players in Michigan for this to happen. There would have to be a mentioning of his name somewhere.

He didn't play in high school.

http://www.eckerdtritons.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball

As you can see, essentially every player is from florida.

basically red shirting just means you dont see any action, therefore you dont lose elgibility. There is no special process or anything, a coach can make a lapse of judgement and a kid loses his redshirt on special teams or something in football. No idea about the situation but just saying

That's for scholarship athletes. You don't walk on and then redshirt, you just don't make the team.

lol yes you do I have a friend who did. Red shirt has NO barring on what kind of financial aid(scholarship) you have, it is merely an eligibility thing.  Teams needs more then 9-10-11 guys to practice, and in D2 there are what 5-6 full scholarships, rest are on partials or none. Basically a walk on redshirt means a kid who practices and that but just never makes it on court for a game.

so what i gather from the above convo is:

alex maroko didn't play high school ball and definitely not D2 basketball..

correct?

JC FALSE-  here are 10-13 kids on a basketball team, only 7-8 play, the rest are STILL on the team even the walk ons. If they are on the roster they are on the team. In football there are like freaking 50 some kids dressed on the team, with a decent amount being red shirts.

Adarq- who knows I dont have proof of either one i dont think anyone else does either. Doesnt make it true or false though. But lets not get back into a religious topic

We're not talking about football.

Link me to your friend's school roster so I can confirm they were a walk on redshirt. They do not exist in college basketball.

And all 15 players on Eckerd saw the court this year, meaning none are eligible for a redshirt. Please stop talking.

i don't get the religious topic comment?

alex maroko makes claims about his "basketball career", those of which no one can verify, because they do not exist, just like his dunking ability / 40 yard dash ability.

maroko claims he runs a 4.7 40, it's somehow on us to verify that he doesn't? what kind of reasoning is that..

bottom line, there are no records of him playing basketball ANYWHERE.

hi guys i have an 90 inch standing vertical, cya.

Why would walk on red shirts not exist JC, doesnt make any sense at all, all that is is a person who is on the team, without scholarship, who does not receive any playing time, either due to the coach caring and saving him eligibility or him simply not good enough to get on court.

Not the kid i was talking about, one of the kids at the bottom, know for a fact he was not on scholarship, hence was a walk on. A few years later he is actually playing and has an extra year of eligibility since he didnt play first year.

In terms of AM playing have no idea nor care, but judging by his other feats he talks about, it could all be made up.

i emailed the head coach of eckerd basketball, he's been there 15 years, but until then, salivate on these roster lists that do not include maroko:

http://www.fanbase.com/Eckerd-Tritons-Mens-Basketball-2003-04/roster

http://www.fanbase.com/Eckerd-Tritons-Mens-Basketball-2004-05/roster

bball2020, we care, you know why? it's interesting to us that someone would start lying about their achievements YEARS PRIOR to starting their business.. that interests us.. go back and read some of alex M's old stuff and you'll see he would lie about all kinds of things that were to cement the idea in everyone's head that he was a legit basketball player.. this was years prior to him starting his "coaching/training businesses".

CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR BACK FROM COACH TOM RYAN AND SHUT EVERYONE THE F*** UP.

What? We are saying there is no chance he was recruited so he must have been a walk on. He never actually said if he was a walk on or not.

Post proof that kid was a walk on.

Also I didn't ask for a random kid, I asked for your friend.

come to think of it, from some one who got cut in a d2 basketball and selling "secret" program, something is fishy there. If you watch the video, he will keep tell you how he went from nothing to glory, but the problem is he never succeed. So.. I think he still lose credibility right there.

hmm well I guess u went right to the source

on a totally different topic that at this point has nothing to do with this, Your'e claim that you can"t be a "walk on" and "redshirt" makes absolutely no sense JC. Why could you not be?

Dont have the newspaper article on the kid, but did know and play against him in HS.

Walk on=not on scholarship, normally werent recruited sometimes were with promises of possible scholarship later on.

Redshirt= you dont actually get in a game during the season, thus you(in D1 and D2) do NOT lose a year of eligibility and it is a "redshirt" year.

Who red shirts? People that are not good enough to play as true freshmen and need an extra year to develop. Has nothing to do with being on scholarship or not, simply an eligibility issue.

Example in football- http://www.redandblack.com/2010/07/08/walk-on-no-more-redshirt-earns-scholarship/
Walk-on no more: Redshirt earns scholarship
Faloughi enters the upcoming season as a redshirt freshman.

Clear example here in fooball article I googled- kid made the team, practiced hard but redshirted, after season got offered scholarship due to his progress, thus he still has 4 years to play football

From wiki
"In a redshirt year, a student athlete may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and dress for play but he or she may not compete during the game"
