This resonates with me because I have also been a victim of unsuspecting violence in the past. I have previously been jumped and been hit in the head with a baseball bat several times but thankfully I didn't lose consciousness but I did require 30 stitches across 2 parts of my head. This was a 5 on 1 fight and I was the 1 and they still needed to use a weapon on me.

Another time a few years ago I was at the pub on a Thursday night just having some beers by myself and this man comes up to me and starts talking shit saying that my brother had bashed one of his friends. It was a complete bullshit story and it was just to try and start a fight because my younger brother lives interstate and had been living interstate for several years at the time.  I told him you’ve got the wrong person but he kept hassling me so I told him to fuck off!!! Thinking nothing of it I went out the front to have a smoke and when I went towards the door this guy gave me a shove. I pushed him back and as soon as I did I realised that this guy had 8 mates with him by the pool table inside the pub all eyeing me off. I had a flashback to some of the scraps from my past and thought here we go.

Sure enough I walked outside and they all followed me and jumped me. I started throwing punches as hard and as fast as I could to get away from there. A couple of them connected and then one of the guys came out of nowhere and I felt this hit on the back of my head. He had a metal bat- I think it was a trolley pole. I thought fuck it If I don’t take this guy out I’m fucked so I turned around grabbed his shirt and got 4 or 5 hits into his face. He dropped to the ground and and I sprinted away. I ran for like a kilometre but they gave up chasing me. I took off my shirt and there were all these chunks of skin missing and holes in my shirt with blood pissing everywhere. I went to sleep that night with my head feeling swollen and sore as fuck. Experiences like these are the reason why I don’t go out much anymore and prefer to drink at home in peace. It's dickheads like the guy in the video that I posted above that do this shit to people.  :raging:

Here it is. It's so annoying to see these type of things and depressing too. Too bad for him he is charged as an adult for battery and violence.
But mutumbo, I'm sorry you had to go through that. It makes me feel helpless to see these things. Something has to be done to them.

damn man.. you've had quite alot of violent altercations, being in those places (like you said), like pubs/bars/clubs etc, just increase the chances for altercations.. and for some reason, you seem like a violence magnet. I'm also a violence magnet, but I don't go to those places.. When i'm out running/walking etc, i've had all kinds of close calls, including that really close call where I almost died. But i've had several situations where i've "avoided" being jumped, by being hyper-aware of my surroundings and changing course unsuspectingly etc, to avoid evil individuals who are plotting etc. I imagine if I frequented pubs/bars/clubs i'd be dead, because there's just something about me that triggers anger in some men, including cops etc. I've been stopped/questioned/searched/patted down and even death threatened by police when i'm out running. It hasn't happened in a long time, but during my "dunking days" & "boxing days", it happened ALOT. I think the beanie I wore attracted lots of attention, just made me look "thuggish" or something to some people.. Also the times at night I ran didn't help any either, similar to being in a pub/bar/club, running at 1 AM and such is a very bad idea, especially in south florida where you're basically "bait" at that hour, with people looking to end you "for fun".

Sounds like the areas you are in, it's "non gun" violence? Around here, especially in the US, man it's gun play.. People are just shooting each other over anything. Gun violence in the US is batshit insane.

I was once at the street ball court, and my h.s. bball teammate's brother kept talking tons of shit to these dudes at the court.. Eventually this shit talker just put his hands up, and that's when complete insanity broke out, he didn't realize that the guy he was fighting, had probably 10 or so family members there (cousins, brothers, etc), and him and his brother got absolutely destroyed.. At the end of it, out of nowhere, a guy walks up to the shit talkers bro (my h.s. teammate) and the kid is on the ground, on his knees getting beaten, and this dude pulls out a gun for no reason and puts it right to his head.. and just stands there talking shit to him, like "you know I can kill you right now right?" .. it was fucking insane. Never for one second did I think a gun would be brought out, because these two kids got beat down so bad, i mean heads and face swollen the next day, eye shut, wrecked. But still a gun was brought out at the end.

I was actually thinking about this the other day.. People tried to come at me saying "why didn't you jump in", I was like "you guys nuts? it's like 10 on 2, what you want me to do? Plus the dudes that wrecked you are my friends too.. You guys started the shit in the first place.".. But that's not the part I was thinking about. The part I was thinking about, was my P.E. teacher who was also going at me for not jumping in .... AND THIS GUY WAS A GULF WAR VETERAN / TEACHER. Here he is talking shit to me for not stepping in and defending this knucklehead idiot who started it in the first place. I am not stepping in for anyone who is CAUSING SHIT. If someone I know is causing shit, i'm going to let them take an ass beating. But I don't hang around with people like that so it's a futile hypothetical. I know i don't start shit. LMAO. So I was just thinking about how irresponsible it was for an "educator" to be taking that stance.

Actually, my dad thinks he's tough. I mean he is, but he's just a weirdo. I could totally see him starting shit with someone and getting his ass beat over it. I'd let him get his ass beat too. Stop starting shit.

But ya man, I don't want to be around any wannabe-fighter testosterone scenes: clubs, bars, pubs, just full of em` it seems. Drinking at home or, maybe like, some really fancy bar (lmfao) sounds like a better idea.

peace!

That was 7 years ago.  At the time I fell to the ground and pretended to be knocked out by staying still and closing my eyes. I remember being kicked a few times when my eyes were closed and then they run off.

I like that term 'violence magnet'. I grew up in a fairly rough neighborhood. My parents owned their house but most of the houses around us were public housing. Most of the people in the housing commission were decent people but there was also a lot of drama. It's a place where you can't leave your house or cars unlocked because it will get broken into. The house across the road from us was a housing commission place and we had people moving in and out of there constantly. One set of tenants would move in they'd trash the place get kicked out and there would be another family or couple move in and same story. The only time it was good was when quiet people moved in because often the people they housed were drug dealers so we'd have cars constantly coming and going or just people that had screaming matches in the middle of the street in the afternoon (I'd always notice this when I was on school holidays because generally the people never worked). It was nothing like the hood in the US but it was just an area where if you looked at somebody the wrong way you'll get punched in the mouth so I did get into a lot of fights growing up at school. Don't get me wrong though I had a great childhood.

I've noticed the same thing with regards to getting stopped by the police. I literally refuse to drive my car after midnight because it's just a license to get pulled over. When I was driving an older car I got pulled over frequently especially in certain neighborhoods and also depending on the times. Police have quotas and like to profile people and areas. It's incredible the difference of car that you drive makes as well. If you have an older car you'll get pulled over more. The cops have literally told me before that "we pull over everyone on this street that drives at this time" that was on Prospect Road in Kilburn. I've been stopped by the police multiple times walking home in the morning as well because for them anyone that walks around in the early hours of the morning is suspicious and must be up to no good. I'm not a cop hater but the less interaction I have with the police the better because they are never there to help you.

I know! Crazy culture. I'm glad I don't live in the US I'm pretty sure I would have been shot by now!!!

Definitely. I hate people that try and bring fights into street ball. There's always people like that though. When I was a teenager I'd get involved in fights but now I'm more mature I just walk away or just think to myself what a moron that person is. It's just not worth it. Even now though when I walk away sometimes I get mad with myself for walking away thinking "I should have taught that guy a lesson" but that's just an immature mentality. I try and think of it like karma. If someone is a jerk eventually they'll get their karma served to them and life's too short to worry about everyone that ruined your day or whatever.

I agree there's no way I'd be trying to break up a 10 on 2 especially when the 2 were the ones that instigated the whole situation. I'm actually not that surprised that they got a gun pulled on them as well. It's definitely an overreaction but at the time and with the group mentality and the US gun culture it's something that I could envisage. I never talk shit when I play I'm just there to enjoy the game. Thankfully 99% of the street ball players are the same and even when you do get the 1% most people just ignore it so it doesn't escalate to physical confrontations.
