     The following letter, written by U.S. Marine Joshua Boston and headlined “No ma’am.,” was posted in the CNN iReport on Dec. 27 with the included note from the producer and photo. It has struck a nerve with many and is being circulated around social media venues like Twitter and Facebook.

    Senator Dianne Feinstein,

    I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

    I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.

    I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.

    I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

    We, the people, deserve better than you.

his letter is too 'selfish' imo. I'm not pro gun control that's for sure, but the system is wrecked: from not performing the proper background checks that already are stated in law, to loopholes making it easier to buy weapons, to allowing anyone off the street who isn't a convict to purchase an assault 'weapon'.

So sir, you are in fact an exception to the democracy you claim to be so proud of and have fought so hard for? In a democracy, there are winners, losers, and compromise. With this statement, you are claiming that you will break newly enacted laws instead of pursuing your ideals through the legislative process?

Your belief is respected and held by many. However, if a majority supersedes a minority. And thus this majority supports tighter regulations on specific weapons, magazines, and clips; including a ban on certain weapons:  all while passing such laws that do not in fact violate the 2nd amendment; In keeping the ideals of America and our constitution in mind, a more appropriate course of action should be sought through the legislative process.

A dedicated honorable man such as yourself may perhaps hold tight his belief that he should in fact be able to own a Tank, an Automatic Weapon, or Plastic Explosives. If law makers & the majority of this great United States of America agreed, then this man would be able to own such tools of war. However, the vast majority do not agree, illegal it is so.

Do you pay taxes? It is under my assumption that you are to make the government aware of major assets that you own & money that you earn. If you fail to comply, you do risk fines and even such assets and earnings be taken from you.

Do you have children? It is under my assumption that you are to make the government aware of such children. Failure to comply, and or malnourishment and miss treatment of said children, may in fact lead to Child Protective Service taking said children from you.

I do assume that you operate a motor vehicle. If I am correct in my assumption, is it not the government's duty to enforce that you comply with regulations and in fact prove competency, of which provide you with an official driver's license of said motor vehicle. Now, If perhaps you do wish to fly a 747 jetliner, do you in fact agree that the government, in it's prudence, know what type of licensing you own so that you may not in fact operate a vehicle of which you are incapable?

Your beliefs are strong and respected. However, our lawful society and our democracy put in place regulation, law, certification, licensing and such not only in a proactive approach, but also as a post-mortem or trial & error approach.

The actions of other's do in fact influence our leaders & citizens.

You sir have also enjoyed armed protection, from local law enforcement to other soldiers just like you who serve honorably, some of which may in fact have opposing views to yours. In most states throughout this great nation, you may in fact protect yourself by acquiring a concealed weapons license.

I do wish you had defined your idea of personal protection. Do you not feel comfortable with a hang gun and multiple 10 round clips? Or must you have at your disposal and AR-15 and multiple 30 round magazines.

Our right to bear arms is so very important, but so to is our duty as elected officials to listen to the requests of the people and provide sensible laws, regulations, and licensing to provide an extra level of protection to our citizens.

Dear sir, to where have you read that I have said you may not have a weapon for personal protection? Contrary to your statement, I do not in fact own an assault weapon or high capacity magazines.

While I pretty much agree with him, I hate when people in the military act like their opinion means more or that they deserve special treatment because they are in the military. I kind of got that vibe from this letter. Him being in the military is irrelevant.

yeah my statement was confusing and i was getting to philosophical.  and yeah that does sound like one of those conspiracy theorists lol.  but what i meant is...

gun control in the short term will cover up what is behind the violence/murders because "peace" will ensue.  the news will say "this year the murder rate in chicago and DC has gone down 60%...are we seeing the outcome of the new law at work?"

and then there will be something like "in a related news, a man was found trying to dump a garbage truck filled with cyanide into the main canal of the hudson river leading to the NYC sewer system... he is under FBI custody."

what are we going to do next? ban all chemicals?
