Either way, they're caving in intentionally, and I doubt they get hurt since they don't cave in excessively. They do it all the time during practice, when they're repping weights

That looks like a controlled "cave-in" which is perfectly fine apparently.

If I recall correctly, beginners cave in their knees because they are too weak. These guys cave in their knees intentionally to fully activate quads while coming out of the hole.

A lot of these guys cave in their knees while squatting (during practice, not just in competitions):

Doing consistent 5 on 5 for you (and me) could help tremendously in terms of athleticism.

You mean like what Joel Smith said in this article?: http://www.just-fly-sports.com/long-sprinting-for-reactive-vertical-power-part-i/

I sometimes practice jumping after. But why don't you do some max effort jumps prior to strength workouts? That way, you'll be fired up when you start lifting.

What's the best method to train tendon stiffness? I feel like just practicing running vertical jumps doesn't really do much for tendon stiffness.

Also, is training for power (jump squats) necessary if one does exercises for strength and speed (jumps/sprints)

Hey man. What happened in the last year/year and a half? Did you work on vert at all?

Do you ever practice RVJ or have a video of you performing one? Your SVJ seems extremely similar to your squat form, so I was wondering if your RVJ looked like your squat form too.

So pretty much, train all aspects of the force-velocity curve is what you're saying?

I was doing an undulating periodization routine. Do you think a macrocycle periodization routing is better? (6 strength weeks, followed by a few weeks power, and then a few weeks speed/explosiveness is better)

Thanks man. Yeah, I won't be doing these anytime soon. How would people even do these if they can't lift it back up? Go as slow as possible eccentrically and have a spot help you get up?

What do you guys think of this journal article?: https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.benthamscience.com/open/tossj/articles/V003/52TOSSJ.pdf&chrome=true

How can I implement eccentric training into my training routine? What exercises would be good? Thoughts?

I'm trying to improve running vertical most (off two legs) but still trying to do both. Am I supposed to train this differently in the weightroom? I know I'm supposed to practice the technique of running and jumping off two feet often.

Introduce Yourself / Hi all. 20 year old trying to improve my vertical!
« on: November 15, 2013, 10:54:03 pm »
I am 20 year old and trying to improve my vertical. I am 5'10, 155 pounds, and had a heavy tennis background during my high school years. I am decently athletic and pretty quick at my feet.

My current stats after around 3 months of training vertical:

Standing reach: 7'6''
SVJ: 27-28''. I'm probably 2-3 inches from the rim.
Two leg running vertical: ~33-34''. I can get 2-3 knuckles over the rim.
Max squat: 260

My current program: Train legs 3x a week: one strength day, one power day (jump squats, etc.), and one plyometric day.

Any tips and comments would be appreciated!
