3D modelling project

Hey

I just saw this thread and thought I can mention my MSc Project here which is an Engineering/Programming Project, where i have to create a software using C++ which will generate a 3D model of any real world object  by video recording it and generating the 3d simultaneously and then display the final 3d model, i have finished but its still a bit buggy and will have to work on it as i have to demonstrate the program to my supervisor and examiner.

no pressure there. hopefully i can get it to work nicely and will post some results here.
this is my first ever experience with 3d modelling let alone create a program which will generate it.

Yeah, people usually do this type of stuff for their PhD, which is average 4 years.
I liked the challenge and the attention i would get if placed on my CV (US:Resume) and was interested in 3D modelling so was given this project to do in 1 Year starting from december to august with demo on september.

Hi

I know how they did that, they used that laser scanner, which has a fixed sensitivity on how small they want the distance between points collected on the people, then this would collect millions of points for every scan and that would be fed into the software, which renders the points as a mesh and applies texture then the 3d model is imported on to a software, which sends the info to a CAD machine, which then either prints or cuts it using that printer/cutter thing then they paint it done.

my project would be using a webcam instead of a laser and you would need a green background and they would have to stand on a calibration chart.

the question i would ask if they made the laser scanner, how they made that, because you can do exactly the same with a kinect, you create a program using the points collected from it to the program, my supervisor said using kinect would be too easy, lol, so building that would be awesome and then building the software is easy.
