*Athlete Analysis* Golden Child

GoldenChild is a freak. This is easily my first choice in this section. I've watched this athlete for quite some time. I study him more than pretty much anyone, because I do see some similarities between his movement and my own. His plant/run up is very similar to mine.

important things I notice:

- his huge lead in step: the step he takes leading in to his plant is absolutely huge, he reaches out so far with his leg

- his left leg in the plant: he lands heel (huge breaking force), outside edge, and rotates

- his actual plant: he lands deep in the plant, chest forward over toes, plants right foot, rotates, gets very high on his toes while deep in position with his knees very far forward, and then lifts off... i think how deep he is, and how high his heels are (without much dorsiflexion), is very important... by getting on his toes he's shifting alot of the energy absorption demands to his ankles/achilles + allowing his hips & quads to produce way more force.

he bends at the back much more than you also, but quickly "straightens up"

id say that + the big lead in step are the major differences between his your "tehnical" part of plant

he looks waaay more explosive and has a visually noticeable lower gct :p
re-evaluate, daniel-san, re-evaluate

ya i mentioned the back thing as "chest forward"... could be activating his hamstrings more or allowing him to really load those ankles..

his gct is only slightly less than mine.. which is still very significant..

peace

If you want a guy who plants VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERY far away in front, check out Helicopter from AND1.

I can't find it right now, but there was a dunk in the AND1 mixtape tour where he planted like 10 feet in front of him.

PS: You can see here http://www.pure-dedication.com/various_images/golden_child_dunk_1c.png what I was talking about in the ARowe thread regarding the "opening up laterally" of the arms in the gather. He does not gather throwing his arms back and then rotating, but rather to the side and then rotating in and up.

helicopter was SICK, but he gained too much weight & looks much less athletic now.. he can still get up alright, i think he's what like 6'3 or so? we have a thread on here of someone who plants real far from rim too, double leg, some college guy, i'll try to find it in the next 5 minutes.

ya, arowe is much more of a "linear bilateral planter".. i throw myself in more laterally.. a "lateral armswing" like that, I imagine, goes hand in hand with the quad dominant/calf dominant jumpers, like GC, myself, etc.. planting sideways allows us to load up the ankles way more, planting bilateral-linear most often has one heel striking significantly.

i should get back to making more pictures like that, those are nice.. very fun to check out.. crazy-weird analysis subforum has some toys, it needs more.

peace man

Yeah I know the Randy Culpepper stuff... what I mean was that mini-jump gather for the two-footed jumpers... some take a short one, some take a big one. Helicopter did one BIG jump stop in a dunk I can't currently find...
