ok forget about me, werm & myree are absolute gods.. they basically shut down miami.

as for me, had some nice dunks during warmups.. during competition, first round legs absolutely jello, landed a weak dunk, missed for 2nd part of round 1.. made it to second round.. had to try and get my legs back.. drank a damn sprite.. landed a real nice two hander.. missed my second dunk of round 2, legs jello again.. had a really hard throwdown just couldnt make shit... during warmup i made a real nice two hander, i think someone was in front of cam tho.. i think i got my real hard one hander on vid tho... i trolled everyone in my last dunk of round 2, shit was hilarious, u'll see.. lmfao.

anyway, was crazy fun.. i got some INSANE footage.. like godly

oh and that rim was 10' for sure.. people were complaining about it, dunkers etc.. werm didnt though, or myree.. werm was like "i'd rather dunk on this".. people thought it was higher than 10' lmao.. it kinda felt like it was but it was probably exactly 10'.

anyway werm shut it down, most amazing shit ive ever seen, him and myree..

myree is freaking JACKED.

edit #2: if i would have made my one hander in 2nd dunk of round 2, woulda been final four, fml.. :F

edit: oh ya, i put down caveman as my nickname but the host must have not gotten it, he called me "andrew".. so eventually LOS nicknamed me "castaway" while i was dunking lmao.

now i'm gunna be waiting for that castaway TFB dunk mix!

get that footage up as quick as you can man! i really want watch that ish!

oh and thats freaking awesome how far you made it...weren't even on your A game!...people musta been blown away to see this scrawny little hobo dunker show up!...must've been great!

this basically seems like a three day split

monday lower body -heavy squats, light DLs or whatever and calf work

wedensday upper body -bench press and weighted pull ups

friday lower body -heavy deadlifts and light squats or whatevs calf work and some lunging

dirksilver, it's because during summer im gonna have a 8 week span where I can only work out 2 days a week, and each session Im gonna be pretty time limited.  That's why I was wondering if I can skip the upper body pull workout, and get away with just dead lifting.  I'm guessing no?

My calves are pretty strong, so I think I can skip these for the 8 weeks.

how much time are we talking here brother?

and just call me Dirk...it looks weird to me to see people reply to me as dirksilver hahaha

LMAO alright dirk.  Well aiming for 45min-1 hour at most.  It's just my dead lifts and squats take a long time because of heavy weights/few reps/ long rest between sets, they eat up a lot of time.  But from what I hear, without a direct pulling exercise, I won't be able to maintain my back, so I gotta get that in there I guess.

you ought to just try and do pull ups between suqat or deadlift sets if you think you can manage it...thats probably your best option

Yeah man I just came up with a schedule I think I can pull off within under a hour.  Check my journal's May 26 post and let me knwo what you think.  Link is in my sig

meh...i dunno if super setting is a good idea...but i'll admit i'm no expert...if i were you i'd just stick with squating one day and dead lifting the other...or just picking one and stick to it for the 8 week period

also depending on what you are looking to do you could make this a hypertrophy block and hit 3 or 4 sets of like 8 to 10... or you could make it a pure strength and stick to lower reps...i dunno!!

Nah, the deadlift can be way too much an "isolated" low back exercise. You can use very little leg strength and a lot of low back to lift in the deadlift.

In terms of upperbody I'd limit my training to pushups, chinups, pullups and dips.

But ASSUMING one uses a lot of legs, like when I dead lift, I feel it the most on my hamstrings.

I don't like the bodyweight exercises because I can do 20+ in all 4 of those exercises now, so doing dips and push ups, is just as time inefficient as bench pressing to me.
Basically what I'm asking is, If I just do the big 3 lifts, bench/deadlift/squat, will those 3 be enough to work my WHOLE body (mainly the back as well)?  If I can limit my workout to just those 3, with a little core, I can be pretty time efficient and lower body focused.

i'd probably say this is fine but you'd need to add in a pull and some calves work me thinks

so do weighted pull ups also and do standing calf raises after squats

edit: Assuming you're HB and Lance is Reverse Hypertrophy, Lance was on some straight TLDR shit in that thread.

let's just say you assumed wrong, as to who is RH.

mindfucked, amirite?

I really like this thread because I personally believe the arm swing is such a key part in a succesful jump, and soooo underrated and overlooked.

I have one question though: the shoulders press up weight, while the lats make you pull stuff (like in pullups). Should the lats in reality aid that arm swing instead of the shoulders? When you gather you don't push your arms up or whatever, you rotate and "pull" yourself using the lats in my opinion. Now obviously the shoulder rotate the shoulder joint and so forth, but still.

i'm not sure who it was but i think it was kelly who was saying you use a lot more lat when you plant off two feet with a ball in your hands

Was reading your diet and was wondering what happens if you eat normal? Do you lose muscle mass, strength, become fatigue...?

he gets man boobies and a hairy back

I am not a huge believer in the theory that jumping from a standstill is a terribly complicated movement that

i agree but i was talking about(and i assume he was too)a running vertical jump which is a different story...it takes a fair amount of practice to get good at either a single or double leg running vertical jump...especially if he doesn't do them...i think raptor was probably closest(for the limited information)to the point about longvol not being able to transfer horizontal power into vertical power

60
How much work have you been doing on specific jumping drills? Used mild-moderate shock training? EDIT: Missed that bit but more details would be useful.

I had a similar thing where at 5'8 with a 170kg ass to floor squat at 80kg I could only just nick the rim despite jumping every second day. Basically as high as I was getting when I could squat 110kg at 70kg, although my standing jump had improved heaps. It took more specific drills, mostly working on feet and ankles for me, and 18-24" depth jumps and my single leg RVJ went up 4" in a month from being only slightly higher than my standing 31-32" to 35-36".

I certainly have not done as much jump specific work as one would if they were focusing purely on VJ. I am definitely not supremely skilled in those movements; however, I never was and I would have though that the general improvement in power/strength and elasticity (evidenced by sprint results) would have resulted in significant improvements in the VJ as well and it just never happened.

I have considered doing a LOT more specific work for the feet and ankles, but am unsure of how to incorporate it and have not seen a lot of significant results from other posters other than random bros who do Air Alert or are basically untrained. I'm far from untrained and my lifting/running stats wouldn't be possible for a person with my talent without a lot of training.

ok so you just pin pointed what you need to do...more jump specific work if you'd like to dunk...you have the lifting numbers it would seem...now work on the movement efficiency and plyometric end of things

Jumping skill can be improved, sure. The fact remains that I have been doing plyos in various forms and excel at a level well beyond casual dunking ability in sprinting (the most 'reactive' active a human can do). I'm not sure how much doing a lot of VJs is going to help--the strength and plyometric ability I've added at this point has account for essentially 0.

but you said you weren't good at single leg jumping right? because being good at sprinting doesn't correlate to two legged jumping th same way it dose to single leg jumping i'm pretty sure...so what i'm saying is being fast doesn't make you a good double leg jumper...you have to practice it and preform depth jumps and such probably
