Hi

I was wondering about the depth jump, you stand on a box, you come off and with less time spent on the ground you shoot up as high as you can, this will help develop leg stiffness and shock absorption or increase shock absorption from the shock the leg goes through sprint cycle or something link this.

How about 1 legged depth jumps or and i say OR

using the 1 legged depth jump but instead of jumping up, you land and as soon as you land push the ground behind you i.e. in a sprint when your lead leg lands under the hips and pushes back that's the part this would train?

would this work?

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Some Training Questions
« on: October 22, 2012, 06:18:54 am »
Hey

I am on a current workout, which i do low intensity weight workout on friday and moderate intensity workout on sunday.

Friday
5x10x50%rm squat, use same weight for calf raises, rdls
3 sets bw pullups, which i am stuck on getting 5 reps followed by 2 sets of 2-3 reps.
3 sets dips

saturday
2x6-7x75%rm squat, use same weight for calf raises, rdls
3 sets bw pull ups and dips.

I have been adding 5kg to the bar everyweek, when i am able to complete my reps previously.

I eat 4 times a day, i live in a student accommodation and have been taking 2 scoops of whey protein after workouts.
i also do endurance runs on other days when not in the club, i do hill sprints and 150-200m sprints 80% intensity

Now since i have been adding 5kg to my low and moderate intensity workouts i feel i am getting close to my 1rm, which will be next week when i do 50kg maybe be able  to get 5 reps with struggle.

this will make my moderate workout turn to a high intensity workout because i am lifting my 1rm and then eventually my low intensity will catch up and reach my 1rm.

Then i will be stuck at a weight, what do you recommend i do, i am skinny guy, was advised not to do hypertrophy as i want to sprint faster but i also want to jump higher as well.

any suggestions, changes, any mistakes i am making?

thanks

Basketball / Youtube basketball training channel

Hey guys

I found this cool youtube channel, which gives alot of tips to help improve your game, there may be controversy regarding their vertical training stuff, as most of the time there always is, but the offense, defense, drills really help.

Nutrition & Supplementation / Dextrose - Mixed with whey for post workout
« on: September 13, 2012, 06:03:07 pm »
Hi

I was given the instructions on taking post workout supplements, which included 0.8 x BW(Kg) of whey protein + 0.2 X BW (KG) dextrose. Then mix 5g in loading phase and 2g in maintenance phase with the whey mixtures.

First question: Is dextrose good or a waste of money and i should use any sugar or forget about adding it.

Second: Is the above formula a good guideline to use?

Would it be better to take it before workout or after workout.

Thanks

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / some sprint workout questions
« on: August 26, 2012, 03:55:41 pm »
Here is my workout i did today.

Mobility and activation warm up drills
double and single leg lateral line hops
skipping and karaoke warmup

jump rope 2, 1, alternate

ladder drill
cone drill

a skip drill
a run drill
b skip drill
b run drill

wall drill

sprint start x 2
flying step ups with vest x 3 reps each leg

flying sprint 30m with vest
same without vest

i have 3 knee height pillars near where i train so i thought to use them as flying step ups with vest. i do this before i do the flying sprint then rest 2-3 min.

would this be a good idea or would it be better to do it earlier, as the earliest i can do it is after jump rope which do in my garden or avoid them?

also when running i hold the stopwatch with my left hand which is in the air while my right hand is near my right knee at the star position so when i am running my left hand is a closed fist and my right hand is open handed would this effect my time?

thanks

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Hurdle interest
« on: August 12, 2012, 09:32:12 am »
Hi

I am currently training for the 100m and 200m and was intrigued by the hurdles and would like to try that, but since i would rate my self as above average in flexibility, doing the hurdle's requires more flexibility then i have as it is quite high.

any tips and drills that can be used along side a sprinters program for the hurdles.

just tried to hurdle over some fences which was waist height, average amount of effort required, but it would place a lot of pressure in the hip flexor, illipoas muscle area and today my ham, back and hip/glute is quite painful.

thanks

The start line of the final race was filled with people who all had the capability of getting under 10s.

One person yohan blake who beat bolt in the trials, tyson gay and asafa powell, ryan "the giant" bailey (my nickname for him)
of usain bolt.

but what the outcome was, lets just say how could anyone have doubted this guy. but there was also drama at the end.
another injury brought the jamaican legend sprinter asafa powel out of medal places.

i feel sorry for the guy, he has never won an olympic medal.

Quote
LONDON (Reuters) - Jamaica's Asafa Powell remains the nearly man of sprinting after pulling up injured in the Olympic 100 metres final won by compatriot Usain Bolt on Sunday.

Powell got a good start and was in contention at halfway but he suddenly slowed and jogged across the line in 11.99, over two seconds behind the seventh-placed finisher Richard Thompson of Trinidad & Tobago.

Meanwhile, Bolt, who ran an Olympic record of 9.63, was already on his victory lap with his training partner Yohan Blake, second in 9.75.

Powell dropped to one knee and looked at the result showing on the big screen just above the brightly burning Olympic flame. He was the only man not to break 10 seconds.

As 80,000 people chanted 'Usain, Usain' and the stands flickered with the light of camera flashes, Powell quietly disappeared into the bowels of the stadium to face the waiting media.

"I injured myself. It felt good being out there in the final but I wanted to do something different. I injured my groin," Powell told reporters, the disappointment clearly etched on his face.

The sight of Bolt's back has taunted Powell since his younger rival burst on to the scene in 2007.

Powell has held the world record and is the most prolific sub-10 seconds sprinter of all time but the only individual medals he has from the major championships are world bronzes from 2007 and 2009.

That and his fifth-placed finishes at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics raised questions about Powell's mental strength but he told reporters before the Shanghai Diamond League meeting in May he had pinpointed the problem.

The 29-year-old may have cured any mental fragility but that cannot be said of his body.

Powell missed the 2011 world championships with a groin injury and pulled out of the London Grand Prix last month with a similar problem.

He has previously said he has no plans to retire and has not ruled out racing on until the 2016 Games in Brazil. His body, however, may have other ideas.

The Results.

        1   2170   JAM BOLT Usain   9.63    OR
    2   2169   JAM BLAKE Yohan   9.75    =PB
    3   3216   USA GATLIN Justin   9.79    PB
    4   3217   USA GAY Tyson           9.80    SB
    5   3205   USA BAILEY Ryan   9.88    =PB
    6   2547   NED MARTINA Churandy   9.94
    7   3051   TRI THOMPSON Richard   9.98

I wish him the best and hope a gold medal in the future if his body can handle it.

Hi

I was watching the 110m hurdle events at the diamond league and was intrigued at how much sprint oriented it is as well as jumping, i then thought since i am doing sprinting i thought that i would like to try hurdling, it doesn't look too difficult except maybe the height might, lets see how it goes.

any tips on hurdling?

thanks

Here is a Reaction test to see how fast you can react to the gun.

http://www.athleticarcade.com/onyourmarks/index.html

You just have to press as soon as the gun shot is sound.

When i did it lets just say my reaction was bad.

first it was 0.256s then 0.264s, 0.276s, 0.303s, 0.330s then it stays at this time my best was 0.221 and yet it is too slow, they come up with an excuse are you drunk..  :uhhhfacepalm:.

It says people got 0.18.

When looking at the upright phase of the sprint my thinking is different to what it actually should be, but what i know, which everyone agrees with is that the sprinter should be at max velocity when starting the upright phase.

my confusion deals with the intensity.

My thinking is that when exploding out of the blocks and through the acceleration phase, the sprinter should be using 100% intensity to gather up speed but after is where i go wrong, i am thinking that the sprinter should continue to push even at upright position with max intensity trying to accerate and run as fast as i can then i am, but i found out that this is wrong.

A lot of professional sprinters say that when you reach top speed and upright you should reduce the intensity without slowing down,  and this is the phase where you relax, pump arms as fast you can while sprinting at a low intensity, being relaxed.

i never did understand this ideology, stay relaxed when running, wouldn't that slow you down.

can anyone explain this to me.

thanks
