Old Journals / allstar09 Journal

Right, so now that Im married and working fulltime as opposed to chilling at uni, Im going to make sure I allow time to update my journal! Sleep is so tempting though!

Ive been around since the Terminal Vertical days and have tried all the tricks in the book (most failing miserably). Been squatting for a few years but have never really made that big jump in terms of improvement. Have hovered around that just under 1.5x bodyweight area for ever. I squat parallel, low(ish) bar. I go through phases of being super dedicated then when things don't go really well I get slack and lose what I gained pretty quick. So step one is to stop being a bitch and keep going.

So the strength side of things has always been hard, im really slow, and have terrible endurance. Not much to work with initially!

I figured I need a change so Im taking to "adarquism". How can what he has been doing not inspire you?! Started doing above parallel squats, lots of calf raises, bought some of the Nike Waffle Racers etc. I have done the above parallel squats for a few weeks now and I find them REALLY hard. Way harder than going further down. Making myself stop at that higher point is just killing me. When I squat lower I just naturally get to a point where I can't really go further so its easier for me. Anyway Im working on it.

I am 5'10" without shoes and weigh about 68kg (150lbs) and am 22yrs old. I can almost get all my fingers over the rim.

Like I said, I have terrible endurance so this was probably about 10-15 minutes worth. It was just a bunch of max effort jumps for the rim. In the new Nikes Waffle's which were AWESOME. So light obviously, but just felt good. Felt a tiny bit "greasy" but I figured they just needed wearing in (which I have beed assured by adarqui). Did a few alley oop attempts. Was definitely not going to make one but its good practise. Managed to roll one in and nip the rim which was cool. Jumps just felt real good today. I jump off two feet.

3x10 @ 70kg
I have stayed at 70kg for a few workouts now because getting those higher reps has bee real tricky but now that I got the whole 3x10 Im happy. The very last rep was a killer, made the back of my head feel real messed up. Was fine after some water, kind of freaky though because i've never had that before! A few breaths in between reps towards the end.

Calf Raises:
I don't really log these. Its on a standing calf raise machine. I did 70kg today for three sets. I just do as many as I can then when a weight gets too easy (around 20reps) I bump it up a bit.

So thats it, nice and simple. Don't want to spend hours doing stuff.

Old Journals / Need to Dunk...

For those that don't know me:

Age: 22
Height: 5'10"
Squat: Low bar 85kg x 5 (which is 2.5kg under my all time PR)
I can get my fingers over the rim on a good jump
I'm very slow, weak, terrible endurance, and its taken me ages to get to where I am
I'm also underweight, around 69kg (151 lbs)
I'm a basketball player but I just play in a local league 1 day a week with no team practises or anything. I practise 1-2 other days a week.

I want to dunk. Anything that won't help me get there is irrelevant to me.

I have started getting in more calories each day, bought some mass gainer which makes things easier since it's hard for me to get time during the day to get good meals in.

If I can squat 100kg x 5 I WILL dunk. So basically my initial goal is to add 15kg to my 5RM squat.

My plan for now is to alternate between two workouts. One is 1x5 squat, 1x5 lunges. The other is 2x8 squat, 2x8 lunges. Simple as. I will also throw in some jumps here and there. Im not super strict with working out on certain days or doing two 1x5 days in a row for example. I go alot on how I feel. If I feel pumped up like crazy and did 1x5 last time then I'll more than likely do it again etc to go for that PR.

So I have decided that this is my new home  ;D

Realised the steps to my goal aren't that complicated:

- Eat more
- Squat/lunge more
- Jump on occasion

Short term (conservative) goal is to squat 90kg x 5 before the end of the year. I am at 82.5kg x 5 now.
