beginner with lifting shoes?

I'm guessing Mark probably keeps a good selection of his custom Rogue shoes on hand.

My bad...i've never seen or heard of bumper plates before...and ya he does look like a beginner...
As for the rounding of the back...he is doing it and like I said it is instinctively kind of hard to round your back that much with a bar on your shoulders...but he is still doing it!

They're the plates used in olympic weightlifting. They have a very thick rubber section surrounding a metal core and can be dropped safely and repeatedly.

Damn and Dimas is an absolute beast though.

Yeah Dimas was freakily strong. 280 front squat and 330 back squat rumored. Probably likely too since he had whack technique for a gold medalist and power jerked.

They erased the world records when they changed the weight classes and tweaked the rules slightly. Once some time between 1994 and 1996 and again some time between 1996 and 2000. I think it was a bit stupid, but no one was really getting close to the clean and jerk world records because of stricter drug testing. Varbanov did 215.5kg clean and jerk at 75kg, Dimas never managed better than 215kg weighing 85kg. Snatch has stayed much the same though due to improvements in technique.

Damn his grip is wide. The bar almost touches his head.

Yeah. Very wide. Most guys with good snatches take an at least above average width grip though. Check out how wide Andrei Rkybakou is for someone 5'8:

Having said that mine isn't all that much narrower lol.

Krastev was the best superheavy ever in snatch (216kg):

Chigishev is pretty fantastic though.

Straps are also worthwhile but be careful using them with the clean because they can tear your wrists up on the catch.

Yeah straps and powercleans are definitely not a good idea. Even worse for cleans. Too much risk of hurting your elbows and wrists. Just don't do it. This guy can tell you why:

Just recently a guy ruined a bar in the gym I train at by loading up to 530 lbs for his 1/4 squats, getting out of position and letting it drop on the pins from pretty much shoulder height. I heard from the trainers but I am pretty sure I know who the guy is and he is not weak. He is actually a very, very good sprinter whose coach told him he wouldn't need full squats since he does not need the ROM for his sport. Thing is the guy is really a very advanced athlete in his events (long jump and 100 m) and to get a decent training effect for his GPP from 1/4 squats he needs to go heavy. Turns out maybe too heavy than what he can actually handle safely. I hope he is alright.

Yeah it can be hard to control so much weight. I've seen a few oly lifters black out doing jerk drives (basically 1/4 a quarter front squat). They're often done from a dead stop on a rack too like this:

Well they might, but why only in the 1st ever session and NEVER EVER after? Maybe just because I laid off some time away from any strength train, so soreness will be regardless the "first time" in quite a while you squat again. But whatever, the VMO was so much stimulated... while the vastus lateralis barely had any soreness.

Because you're more stable in the movement and they're not having to work as hard...

he probably shouldn't be compared to dimas/boevski then, both of whom have numerous world record's etc, and some crazy lifts on tape.. just saying hehe

boevski is bulgarian so i'm pretty sure he's been trained using high frequency regimes.

pc

Dimas also. The Greek and Turkish teams follow extremely similar programs to the Bulgarians. Actually I'm not even sure the Turks differ much at all but the Greeks definitely did more squatting.

High frequency is a bit of misnomer though. Under the programming favored by the Russian's you'd be training almost every day as well although the philospy is quite different.

google judd biasotto...602 ?? at 132 lbs...advocate of pavel's high freq(grease the grove more or less), high volume, varying intensity, no fatigue, perfect technique, practicing a movement rather than 'working out'

damn, drop a thread on him mang.

More impressive is the 320kg squat WR in IPF 60kg.

Weightlifters still own powerlifters in squatting when you take into account gear and depth though. Even the powerlifting squat specialists who are uncompetitive overall don't squat as well as the weightlifters.
