WEIGHT: 177.5 (lol, there it is right back. think it's water weight, though, ate a ton of carbs yesterday)
SORENESS: upper hamstrings and glutes
ACHES/INJURIES: low back as soon as i started squatting
MENTAL STATE: okay, a bit stressed

- warm up

- paused squat jumps x 3

- SVJ x 6

- squats
started to warm up but back was bothering me. super pissed about this, not sure what the proximate cause is and i've never had lower back pain from squatting before. something is off but not sure what.

- seated DB OHP 40s x 10,10,10

- lat pull down 120 x 10,10,10

- DB shrugs 65s x 20

- inverted row x 15

started to do some ab shit but it was bothering my lower back. guh.

it's a matter of different styles. VC was aggressive and stylish, his dunks always had so much attitude. green seems weightless, he's so graceful even when he's dunking over or through people.

VC is the GOAT, i think, but i love watching green.

it's wankery, i don't think it matters that much at our levels of training.

I'm not impressed either... it wasn't powerful... he just took off off one leg and threw down a pretty soft two hander... nothing impressive to me.

 :gtfo:

he double-clutched on a fast break through a 7-foot NBA player who was trying to get in his way. with ease.

my default squat is low-bar but quad-heavy. not much hamstrings.

if the guy is in reasonably good shape, and it sounds like he is, then the answer is to practice jumping. simple as that. if he wants to, it can't hurt him to do some plyos, sprints, and/or leg strengthening stuff like BSS, RDLs, GHR, step ups, whatever. but the overwhelming focus just has to be jumping; secondary stuff should NOT get in the way.

it's not an exact science, and that was for his basic bulking routine. in my brain it makes a sort of foggy sense to switch to 2x8 rather than 3x5 but i'm not sure it matters that much at the end of the day. 2x8 allows you to maintain the same intensity, or something like that. if you want to switch to 3x5, just do it.

Oliver Sacks, a neurologist who wrote one of my favorite nonfiction books (Awakenings) and is one of the best-known doctors in the world - definitely the best-known neurologist - dead lifted 600 pounds in a powerlifting meet as a young man.

Now now... read the whole article...

I think there are more nuances that aren't being discussed in the comparison of the two, and one of the most important and understated of these is the foot dorsiflexion demands/dorsiflexion adaptations that the high bar requires/provides. And with that comes a ton of other "side-effects".

i did read the whole article. it's dumb, just rippetoe in reverse.
